Summary
You will serve as a Maintenance Worker (Trails) This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition at management's discretion. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.
Major Duties
Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Performs trail maintenance, repair, and construction using established trail maintenance techniques, including erosion control, drainage correction, tread work, and stabilization of trail features. Performs masonry work in the maintenance, repair, and construction of trail structures, including dry-stone walls, bridge abutments, causeways, riprap trail tread, and similar structures. Performs carpentry and log work in the maintenance and construction of trail structures, including footbridges, multi-use bridges, boardwalks, crib walls, steps, water bars, log checks, corrals, and hitch rails. Uses, maintains, and performs routine servicing of hand and power tools and equipment associated with trail, masonry, carpentry, and log work, including chain saws, drills, saws, rock-working tools, generators, and related equipment. Operates non-commercial motor vehicles and equipment to transport personnel, tools, materials, and equipment to work sites and trailheads and to support trail maintenance and construction activities. Leads and works with diverse volunteer groups on assigned trail maintenance and construction projects when directed or when a work leader or supervisor is absent. Performs general labor and work-site support duties and applies established safety practices, including moving materials, maintaining clean work sites, camps, vehicles, equipment, and shop areas, and safely performing work under varying field and backcountry conditions.
