Franklin & Marshall College invites applications for an Adjunct position in Environmental Studies in the Department of Earth and Environment, to teach one section of ENE117 Environment and Human Values. This introductory course is the gateway to the Environmental Studies major and minor and is also taken by students in the sciences and other disciplines. Its focus includes: historical and modern attitudes toward nature; human use of natural resources; the effects of the growth of science and technology on human uses of and attitudes toward the environment; and modern humans’ ability to substantially alter the environment. Key concepts addressed include the nature of human population growth, the notion of “limits to growth,” and the difficulty of managing the use of common pool resources.
The course will be taught in person beginning on January 19, 2027; the employment period extends for two weeks following the completion of the spring semester, May 21, 2027. This position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship. The rank will be Adjunct Assistant Professor or Instructor depending on qualifications.
Applicants should possess or be close to completing a doctorate (or terminal degree) in an environmentally relevant social science field, including geography, anthropology, sociology, history, political science, or other closely related disciplines. Teaching experience preferred. The salary is $7,000 per course.
