About the Role:
As an O&M Solar Technician, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient operation and maintenance of solar PV systems at a utility-scale site. You will ensure maximum plant performance through proactive inspections, troubleshooting, and timely corrective actions. Your work will help minimise downtime, protect critical assets, and support the site’s overall production targets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on solar PV arrays, inverters, combiner boxes, and associated balance-of-system equipment.
- Diagnose and repair faults in PV systems, including DC and AC components, wiring, and field devices to restore optimal performance.
- Conduct inverter and combiner box testing, cleaning, torque checks, and component replacement in line with OEM and site procedures.
- Monitor plant performance via SCADA and other monitoring platforms, identifying underperformance and initiating corrective actions.
- Execute corrective maintenance activities, including component swaps, wiring repairs, and equipment resets, following established work orders.
- Apply Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures to ensure safe isolation of equipment during maintenance and repair tasks.
- Inspect, operate, and maintain tracker systems, including mechanical adjustments, controller checks, and troubleshooting tracking issues.
- Document all maintenance activities, findings, and repairs accurately in site logs and maintenance management systems.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience in solar PV operations and maintenance, ideally within utility-scale or commercial solar plants.
- Strong hands-on skills in troubleshooting PV systems, inverters, combiner boxes, and field electrical equipment.
- Practical knowledge of SCADA and monitoring systems for performance analysis and fault identification.
- Demonstrated ability to perform preventive and corrective maintenance in an outdoor, field-based environment.
- Familiarity with LOTO procedures and safe work practices for electrical and mechanical systems.
- Experience working with single-axis or multi-axis tracker systems, including basic mechanical and control troubleshooting.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and equipment manuals.
- Comfortable working at heights and in varying weather conditions, with a focus on safety and adherence to site protocols.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with specific inverter and tracker OEM platforms used in utility-scale solar plants.
- Background using CMMS or digital maintenance management tools for work order and asset tracking.
- Basic data analysis skills for identifying performance trends and recurring issues.
- Previous experience in high-voltage (MV) environments within renewable or power generation facilities.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical certificate or vocational training in electrical, mechanical, or renewable energy disciplines preferred.
- Associate degree in Electrical Technology, Renewable Energy, or related field advantageous.
- OSHA or equivalent safety training certifications beneficial.
- NABCEP or other solar-related certifications considered a plus.
