Summary
You will serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Manager with National Park Service. This position is located in the Intermountain Regional Office serving Interior Regions 6, 7, & 8 Facilities and Lands Directorate. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1-2 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. GS-14 Salary: $140,239 (Step 01) to $182,316 (Step 10).
Major Duties
Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Provides leadership and support to safety staff throughout the Region to assist them in planning and executing their programs in a manner consistent with national and regional Safety, Health, and Wellness (SHW) objectives and requirements. Develops and oversees efforts to ensure SHW management systems are in place and functioning, that managers understand their responsibilities of safety and well-being of their personnel, and that all program areas incorporate SHW practices at all levels of program planning, direction, administration, and execution within the Region. Responsible for overall allocation of staff time and effort of the regional office safety team. aligns staff work to ensure the best use of regional office Safety Division resources. Provides oversight to the determination of priorities for each regional office staff member, and heavily influences the workplans of the ~20 full time safety managers and ~30+ collateral duty safety managers throughout the Region. Provides guidance to the management staff of 80+ parks within the Region. The regional program includes more than 50 safety contacts identified for parks, ranging from approximately 20 fulltime safety managers to 30+ employees with collateral safety responsibilities, to Superintendents filling a safety leadership role, as well as regional safety contacts and specialists in a variety of other disciplines. Plans, directs, coordinates, and provides strategic leadership for all SHW activities including finding and establishing new and innovative approaches. Plans, requests, monitors, and is accountable for the Regional Division Safety Budget. Supports and oversees system implementation including the SHW Electronic Tool, the Safety Management Information System (SMIS) and the Incident Notification Tool which all collectively provide management information on SHW at all levels of the organization. Participates in formulating NPS policy recommendations related to SHW programs, including the development of service-wide procedures, guidelines, and processes.
