Summary
This position serves as a Supervisory Recreation Fee Specialist. The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of administrative duties that are associated with the management of fee revenue and donations collected from the public under the authority of Federal laws and regulations such as the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (FLREA).
Major Duties
Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Collects appropriate fees at park entrance station, visitor center, campground and other visitor contact station following established accountability guidelines for handling government funds. Perform as the campground host liaison by supporting hosts, coordinating their needs, and ensuring smooth communication between park staff and campground operations. Supervise a team performing fee collection duties. This includes but not limited to completes performance appraisals and counsels' employees; handles conduct and discipline issues; affects minor disciplinary measures and recommends other action(s) to higher level supervisor in more serious cases. Operates and troubleshoots all aspects of the nationwide RBMS point of sale system and/or recreation.gov. May also operate and trouble shoot other interfaces such as Pay.gov. Hires, trains, and supervises employees, plans and schedules work. Encourage high performance of staff through a variety of motivational techniques and leads by example. Physical Demands: This position may require standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting, and other emergency response duties. Work Environment: This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station. Work may be frequently performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations. Area Information: Indiana Dunes National Park spans over 16,000 acres along 15 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline across LaPorte, Porter, and Lake counties, offering more than 50 miles of hiking trails through dunes, woodlands, wetlands, and prairies. The park is nationally recognized for its exceptional biodiversity, ranking fourth among all national parks, with over 1,100 plant species and 350 recorded bird species. Annual visitation exceeds 2.6 million, with 2025 drawing approximately 2.63 million visits, placing the park in the top 5 percent of all federal recreation sites.
