Our client is an expanding and highly busy UK construction and property consultancy.
The business delivers work across construction and property, including whole life carbon and embodied carbon assessments for major building developments. The role combines material quantification with environmental data tracking and detailed carbon calculations.
THE ROLE: SUSTAINABILITY ENGINEER / QUANTITY SURVEYOR (QS)
The Sustainability Engineer / Quantity Surveyor will operate at the intersection of Quantity Surveying, material quantification, and environmental data tracking.
Working remotely from South Africa during UK hours, the successful candidate will manage highly involved spreadsheet calculations to deliver Whole Life Carbon (WLC) and embodied carbon assessments for major building developments.
This is intended for a mid-to-senior professional who can bring independence and experience to the team, working through complex technical engineering and material data problems without requiring continuous support.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct detailed, spreadsheet-based Whole Life Carbon and embodied carbon assessments for buildings.
- Manage highly involved spreadsheet calculations for major building developments.
- Quantify materials and track environmental data as part of carbon assessments.
- Use advanced Microsoft Excel and data-handling capabilities to manage complex calculation sheets.
- Work independently through complicated technical engineering and material data problems.
- Adapt calculations and processes to shifting requirements.
- Collaborate with site contractors to monitor and track carbon output where applicable.
- Compare projected versus actual carbon output to support final embodied carbon reports.
- Work with the London Plan GLA (Greater London Authority) system for Whole Life Carbon reports where applicable.
- Operate independently while working remotely across UK time zones.
ABOUT YOU
- Proven direct, hands-on experience conducting detailed, spreadsheet-based Whole Life Carbon and embodied carbon assessments for buildings.
- Quantity Surveying experience is the most important professional background for this position.
- Mid-to-senior level professional with the experience and independence required to operate autonomously.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and data-handling capabilities, with the ability to manage highly involved calculation processes without basic data-management training.
- Strong mathematical capability.
- Strong problem-solving ability, particularly across complicated technical engineering or material data.
- Disciplined self-starter capable of working independently without continuous guidance across time zones.
- Experience or exposure across whole life carbon and general sustainability.
- Site construction experience.
- Construction management experience.
- Architecture experience.
- Project management experience.
- Client-facing experience, including sales exposure and the ability to manage challenging client interactions.
- London Plan GLA experience for Whole Life Carbon reporting is highly desirable.
- Experience collaborating with site contractors to track and compare projected versus actual carbon output is highly desirable.
