Native Plant Nursery Supervisor (Full-Time)

The Toledo Zoo & Aquarium has been educating, inspiring, and providing enjoyment to our community for over 100 years. Our employees are instrumental in ensuring that over 720 species of animals, including endangered wildlife, are maintained, researched, and protected. We are currently seeking a Full-Time Native Plant Nursery Supervisorto join our Conservation Department.The Wild Toledo program performs unique conservation work in Northwest Ohio and in your role, you would be an integral part of conservation efforts put forth by the Toledo Zoo.
Under general supervision, operates the Wild Toledo Native Plant nursery, including daily care and maintenance, maintaining healthy nursery stock, keeping accurate inventory and chemical application records. Cultivates and maintains a diverse collection of native plants for sale to the public as well as plants used in the native plant landscaping program. Maintains nursery material at a high standard and ensures nursery material is grown to correct sizes for the needs of the department.
This position reports to the Wild Toledo Coordinator, is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and eligible for overtime pay for hours worked over forty (40) in a work week.
Minimum Training and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Biology, Environmental Science, or related field or an Associate’s degree with relevant experience in nurseries/conservation that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Must be able to demonstrate working knowledge in nursery operations, conservation biology themes, techniques and a willingness to learn additional.
- Must also be able to effectively pass on this information to others.
- Requires some flexible scheduling and work on Saturdays during plant season (end of April-August).
- Must have a valid drivers’ license and be insurable by the fleet insurance carrier.
- Must be at least 21+ years of age.
