At Digby Wells Environmental, our work
contributes to meaningful environmental and social outcomes. We partner with
clients across diverse sectors and geographies to solve complex challenges and
support responsible, sustainable development.
We
are looking for an Environmental GIS Specialist who can turn spatial data into
clear, reliable insights that strengthen environmental decision-making. You
will work alongside passionate and capable colleagues, contribute to
multidisciplinary projects and grow through exposure to varied technical
challenges, locations and client contexts.
The opportunity
As an Environmental
GIS Specialist, you will provide high-quality geospatial analysis, mapping and
data-management support across environmental and social projects. You will work
closely with environmental specialists, project teams and clients to ensure
spatial information is accurate, accessible and translated into practical
project insights.
This role offers the
opportunity to apply your GIS expertise to work that has real impact while
continuing to build your technical, consulting and project experience.
What you will do
- Produce accurate, professional
maps and spatial outputs for environmental assessments, technical reports,
proposals and client presentations.
- Undertake spatial analysis to
support environmental screening, constraints mapping, impact assessment, site
selection and decision-making.
- Source, capture, clean,
validate, manage and maintain spatial datasets.
- Develop and manage
geodatabases, metadata and consistent spatial-data structures.
- Interpret environmental, social
and project data and communicate the findings clearly to technical and
non-technical stakeholders.
- Support fieldwork planning,
spatial data collection and the integration of field data into GIS platforms.
- Conduct quality assurance and
quality control of maps, data and spatial analyses.
- Work collaboratively with
multidisciplinary project teams to define GIS requirements and deliver outputs
within agreed timeframes and budgets.
- Apply relevant GIS standards,
coordinate systems, templates and document-control requirements.
- Contribute to proposals, scopes
of work, estimates and the continuous improvement of GIS tools, processes and
capabilities.
- Keep up to date with developments in geospatial technology and
identify practical opportunities to improve project delivery.
Requirements
What you will bring
- A relevant tertiary qualification in GIS,
Geomatics, Geography, Environmental Science or a related field.
- 3 - 6 years’ relevant GIS experience,
preferably in environmental consulting, mining, or
natural-resource projects.
- Strong proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and/or
QGIS and sound knowledge of spatial databases and data-management
principles.
- Experience in spatial analysis,
cartography, map production and geospatial quality assurance.
- An understanding of coordinate reference
systems, projections, metadata and spatial-data standards.
- The ability to interpret technical
information and present complex spatial findings clearly.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical
thinking and problem-solving ability.
- Good written and verbal communication
skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities
and deliver accurate work within project deadlines.
- A collaborative approach and willingness
to work across disciplines, offices and cultures.
- Experience
in remote sensing, web GIS, field-data applications, Python, FME, SQL, ArcGIS
Online or other geospatial automation tools would be an advantage.
