Position Summary
The Parts & Inventory Specialist will support shop operations by sourcing and purchasing parts, maintaining accurate inventory, and ensuring all parts activity is properly tracked in the maintenance management software. The goal is to keep technicians supplied, control parts costs, and minimize vehicle downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and purchase parts, supplies, and components for maintenance operations.
- Obtain competitive pricing and maintain relationships with parts vendors and suppliers.
- Research part numbers, availability, pricing, and alternative options.
- Receive, inspect, label, and properly store incoming parts.
- Build and maintain organized shop inventory.
- Establish and monitor minimum/maximum stocking levels for commonly used parts.
- Track parts in and out of inventory through the maintenance management software.
- Ensure parts are properly assigned to the appropriate work order, vehicle, or equipment.
- Maintain accurate part numbers, descriptions, costs, vendors, and quantities.
- Conduct periodic inventory counts and resolve discrepancies.
- Coordinate parts transfers between locations when needed.
- Manage returns, backorders, and special-order parts.
- Monitor parts spending and identify opportunities to reduce costs.
- Identify commonly used parts that should be stocked to reduce downtime.
Qualifications
- Experience with fleet, heavy-duty truck, automotive, equipment parts, or inventory management preferred.
- Knowledge of heavy-duty trucks and refuse equipment is a plus.
- Experience using inventory or fleet maintenance software preferred.
- Strong organizational and computer skills.
- Ability to research and identify parts using OEM and aftermarket part numbers.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and understands the importance of parts availability and accurate inventory control to fleet uptime. Heavy-duty truck, refuse equipment, hydraulic, electrical, brake, engine, and commercial vehicle parts experience is highly desirable.
