Help preserve America's historic treasures. This advanced journey-level position independently performs skilled preservation trade work to repair, restore, reconstruct, and preserve historic buildings and structures. Work includes masonry, wood crafting, carpentry, roofing, and painting using established historic preservation methods, standards, and techniques. Major Duties
This position is located within the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Natl Pk Svc, Southeast, Castillo De San Marcos National Mt, Saint Augustine, FL. The major duties consist of but are not limited to: Perform advanced journey-level masonry, wood crafting, carpentry, roofing, and painting to maintain, repair, restore, reconstruct, and preserve historic buildings, structures, and architectural features. Perform complex historic masonry work using brick, block, and stone; cut, shape, lay, repoint, patch, and reconstruct features to match historic materials, bonding patterns, tooling, color, scale, and finish. Fabricate, reproduce, repair, and restore historic wood features using advanced wood crafting and carpentry techniques, including precise joinery, shaping, fitting, assembly, framing, doors, windows, trim, and decorative woodwork. Preserve and restore historic roofing systems by identifying deterioration and leaks and repairing or replacing roofing, flashing, gutters, sheathing, boards, beams, joists, and related components to historic standards. Perform historic painting and finishing by removing deteriorated coatings, preparing surfaces, matching historic colors and textures, and applying paints, stains, coatings, and specialty finishes using preservation methods. Independently plan and lay out preservation work from historic documentation, blueprints, drawings, specifications, work orders, and physical evidence; determine appropriate methods, materials, tools, equipment, and work sequences. Apply historic preservation standards while using specialized hand and power tools, masonry and woodworking equipment, and scaffolding; provide technical guidance and instruction to lower-level employees.
