DescriptionThe YouthBuild Classroom Instructor is responsible for providing academic instruction and supporting participants in achieving educational and workforce development goals. The instructor delivers math instruction, assists with the implementation of the NCCER Construction Curriculum, and works collaboratively with program staff to ensure participant success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide classroom instruction in mathematics and other academic subjects to support participants in obtaining their educational goals.
• Assist in delivering and reinforcing the NCCER Construction Curriculum, including classroom activities, assignments, and assessments.
• Monitor participant progress and provide academic support, tutoring, and intervention as needed.
• Maintain accurate daily attendance records and report attendance concerns to program staff.
• Support the Case and Transition Supervisor in monitoring participant engagement, retention, and overall program success.
• Collaborate closely with the YouthBuild Technician Supervisor to coordinate classroom and construction training activities.
• Assist with participant development by promoting positive behavior, leadership, teamwork, and workplace readiness skills.
• Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.
• Participate in staff meetings, conferences, and program activities as required.
• Support data collection, documentation, and reporting requirements for grant compliance and program outcomes.
• Communicate regularly with participants, staff, and partner organizations to support participants' success.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education, Mathematics, Construction Technology, or related field preferred.
- Experience working with opportunity youth, workforce development programs, or alternative education settings.
- Knowledge of basic math instruction and construction-related curriculum.
- Experience with NCCER curriculum preferred.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to supporting youth development and participant success.
Work Environment:
- Classroom-based instruction with occasional participation in construction training activities and field experiences.
- Regular collaboration with YouthBuild program staff, educational partners, and workforce development personnel.
Reports To:
YouthBuild Program Manager and works closely with the Case and Transition Supervisor and YouthBuild Technician Supervisor.
Due to the organization’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, your essential functions and responsibilities may change to accommodate the needs of the program and to stay in compliance with CDC and County of LA Public Health Department requirements.
