The Principal Engineer (Environments) is accountable for ensuring the right environments are available at the right time, with the right data and releases, to enable successful programme delivery, testing, migration and deployment. They act as the integration point between delivery streams, testing, migration, deployment teams and technology suppliers, while governing release management and environment readiness across the programme.
This is a Wellington based fixed-term opportunity through to September 2028.

What are 5 day-to-day tasks the person in this role will complete?
- Environment Strategy & Planning - Own the end-to-end environment ecosystem required by the programme, including non-production and production readiness. Define what environments are needed, when they are needed, and ensure they support delivery milestones, testing, migration, training and deployment activities.
- Release Management Leadership - Establish and govern the programme's release management capability, including release processes, roles and responsibilities, quality gates, and coordination of code and data releases across environments.
- Cross-Stream Coordination - Work across delivery streams to understand upcoming requirements, manage dependencies, align releases with programme plans, and ensure environments are available when required.
- Technology & Supplier Management - Coordinate with BNZ teams, delivery partners and platform suppliers to plan, provision, maintain and evolve environments, including new environment builds and environment migrations where required.
- Testing, Migration & Go-Live Enablement - Partner with Testing, Migration, Readiness and Deployment leads to provide fit-for-purpose environments, support test data loads and dress rehearsals, address environment-related defects and blockers, and ensure environments meet functional and non-functional testing requirements.

What projects / work will the candidate be working on now and into the next year?
The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development, testing, and integration of software solutions for the CLR project.
Having worked on a similar project in a banking environment will be advantageous.
What technical skills are required for this role?
- AWS, Spring Boot, Configuration Management, Design patterns, CICD deployment patterns, Terraform, Ansible, Openshift, Dynatrace, Splunk, MQ, Kafka
- Work with other Principal Engineers, Platform Leads and developers to ensure solutions are cohesive and solve our customers problems.
- Proactively collaborate with security teams to ensure solutions adhere to organisational security policies and compliance requirements.
- Work closely with architecture teams to align strategies with overall enterprise architecture.
- Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders to advocate for and support the pillars across Engineering domain.
- Communicate technical concepts and solutions effectively to non-technical stakeholders and junior team members.
- Ability to develop software designs coding and testing according to specific work packages and project needs, in accordance with designated company standards of methodology, style and quality.
- Originating, using and promoting the creation and maintenance of company coding and design standards.
- Performing technical tasks, including unit test functions, as required, to support the internal quality and control arrangements as defined by company policy and project requirements.
