Location: Wheat Ridge, Colorado (Field & Office-Based)
Travel: Primarily local travel with occasional project-based travel as needed
Reports To: Project Manager / Program Manager
The Role
The Environmental Field Scientist II is a mid-level environmental professional who supports remediation, site evaluation, environmental construction, and compliance projects throughout the Rocky Mountain Region.
This position serves as both a technical contributor and field leader, balancing office-based analysis and reporting with hands-on field oversight. The Environmental Field Scientist II plays a key role in project execution, contractor oversight, data analysis, regulatory reporting, remediation planning, and mentoring junior staff.
The ideal candidate has a strong technical foundation in environmental consulting, enjoys solving complex environmental challenges, and is capable of managing multiple priorities while supporting project success.
What You’ll Be Doing
Environmental Investigations & Field Oversight
- Lead and supervise environmental field activities and site investigations
- Conduct environmental sampling and monitoring activities
- Perform site inspections and oversee remediation operations
- Support aquifer characterization and remediation system evaluations
- Ensure field activities are completed safely and in accordance with approved work plans
Data Analysis & Technical Evaluation
- Collect, review, validate, and analyze field and laboratory data
- Develop and update Conceptual Site Models (CSMs)
- Conduct remediation feasibility studies and pilot testing evaluations
- Interpret environmental data to support project recommendations and regulatory requirements
- Support technical decision-making through data analysis and reporting
Reporting & Regulatory Compliance
- Prepare work plans, corrective action plans, and technical reports
- Develop documentation for state and federal regulatory agencies
- Prepare project deliverables and maintain project records
- Support environmental compliance activities and regulatory communications
- Ensure project execution aligns with applicable regulations and client requirements
Project Leadership & Collaboration
- Oversee third-party contractors and subcontractors
- Mentor and support junior environmental staff
- Collaborate with Project Managers, engineers, geologists, and technical specialists
- Manage multiple project priorities within assigned project scopes
- Assist with planning, scheduling, and project coordination efforts
Safety & Quality Assurance
- Maintain strict compliance with health and safety requirements
- Utilize PPE and follow all site-specific safety protocols
- Participate in safety meetings and training activities
- Promote a strong safety culture in both field and office environments
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering, or a related field
- 2–5 years of experience in environmental consulting, remediation, or oil & gas projects
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience reviewing and interpreting environmental data
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and project deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Valid driver's license
- Authorization to work in the United States (no visa sponsorship available)
Preferred
- Oil & gas industry experience
- Environmental remediation experience
- Strong technical writing skills
- Experience working with state regulatory agencies
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification
- GIS or CAD experience
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities
Work Environment
This position operates in both office and field environments.
Field Conditions
- Exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and snow
- Walking on uneven terrain and active project sites
- Use of PPE and safety equipment
- Handling and documenting contained environmental samples
- Working around environmental remediation and construction activities
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to travel to project locations as needed
Schedule
- Full-time
- Monday – Friday during normal business hours
- Occasional evenings, weekends, and overtime based on project demands
- Flexibility required to support field schedules and project needs
Work Authorization
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Must possess a valid driver's license
