Purpose of the Role
To provide strategic leadership of Hulamin’s Safety, Health, Environment and Security function, ensuring effective enterprise-wide risk management, regulatory and ISO compliance, environmental stewardship, security resilience and emergency preparedness. The role is accountable for strengthening organisational capability and embedding a proactive safety and risk culture that protects Hulamin’s people, assets, operations and licence to operate.
As a member of the senior leadership team, the incumbent acts as the primary interface with executive and board governance structures on Safety, Health, Environment and Security matters and ensures that safety, environmental management, health, and security remain embedded as line management accountabilities throughout the business.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic SHE Leadership
- Lead the organisation's critical risk and safety strategy.
- Drive a zero-harm culture through visible leadership and operational engagement.
- Govern critical risk controls and enterprise risk management processes.
- Monitor and report SHE performance to executive and board governance forums.
2. Governance, Compliance and Assurance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable SHE legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain and improve ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
- Oversee SHE audits, inspections, legal registers, permits, and statutory appointments.
- Lead engagement with regulatory authorities and external stakeholders.
3. Environmental Leadership
- Manage environmental compliance, authorisations, permits, waste management, and sustainability initiatives.
- Drive environmental improvement projects and environmental risk reduction programmes.
- Oversee environmental monitoring, reporting, and incident management.
4. Security and Loss Prevention
- Develop and maintain an intelligence-led security and loss prevention strategy.
- Manage security investigations, access control systems, surveillance infrastructure, and contracted security providers.
- Protect assets, products, people, and operations from security threats and losses.
5. Emergency Preparedness and MHI Governance
- Assume accountability for Major Hazard Installation (MHI) preparedness and emergency response readiness.
- Lead emergency response planning, drills, and crisis management capabilities.
- Liaise with emergency services and relevant authorities on emergency preparedness matters.
6. Leadership and Organisational Development
- Lead and develop a multidisciplinary Safety, Health, Environment and Security team.
- Build a Safety, Health and Environment culture across line leadership and operational teams.
- Drive succession planning, talent development, and performance management within the function.
