ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGER
We are searching for an experienced ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGER at our DHB QUALITY & STAND facility.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
An Environmental Health and Safety Manager has the important role of protecting both the workers and workplace and ensuring the organization is compliant with regulatory standards and government requirements. The primary function of this position is to assist with the development, monitoring, and implementation of the organization’s health and safety policy; to ensure the organization is compliant with health and safety legislation; and to reduce or prevent hazards, dangers, and accidents. This role not only ensures the health and safety of our patients but also associates, guests, and the overall environment at Doctors Hospital Health System facilities.
Essential Functions:
- Assist with the development and implementation of policies: ensure policies and procedures are in place and enforced.
- Create and utilize checklists to track and monitor compliance with policies. These checklists should follow accreditation standards as well as building / life safety codes. Results of checklists should be published in the Quality Department shared drive.
- Inspect the workplace for potential hazards, identify potential hazards, assess the risks, and report potential hazards.
- Assist with exercise planning and implementation of exercises (such as emergency code drills) to ensure equipment is properly functioning and staff are aware of what to do in an emergency. Document exercises and communication findings to staff and leadership.
- Respond to and investigate events, incidents/accidents, and emergencies. Assist with root cause analysis and education of staff and leadership.
- Ensure the organization is compliant with legislative and regulatory requirements, conduct training with staff to make sure they are aware of regulations and procedures, and provide guidance.
- Keep records of daily activities, documentation of regulatory compliance, and maintained reference materials.

EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s Degree in public health or a related field is preferred.
- RN required, current licensure.
- Training in process improvement, patient safety preferred; Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) preferred.
- Competency in Team STEPPS, Lean, Six Sigma, or other evidence-based performance improvement processes preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of 3 years of healthcare experience in quality, patient safety, or risk management preferred.
