Work, Play and Grow at BlackLine!
Make Your Mark
As the founding Manager, Software Engineering for our new Business Intelligence & Analytics Engineering team in Krakow, you have one of the most consequential roles in this new chapter of BlackLine's growth. This is a genuinely multi-disciplinary team - spanning data engineering, cloud data platforms, BI and analytics, and applied AI - and you will be the architect of the team itself: hiring and developing a world-class group of engineers across those disciplines, and shaping the culture, practices, and career trajectories of everyone in it.
You will lead the team through an ambitious delivery arc. You will start by standing up modern data pipelines - using Fabric database mirroring to move data from our Azure-hosted tenant databases into a canonical data model in Snowflake - then build the modelling layer and surface insight to customers through Power BI dashboards. From there, the team will develop true agentic AI experiences for risk analysis, credit management, cash allocation, and Disputes & Deductions (D&D), blending Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) and Human-on-the-Loop (HOTL) patterns on BlackLine's BL 3.0 Agentic framework.
You will partner closely with your senior engineers and cross-functional product leadership to ensure the team operates with clarity, urgency, and a high engineering bar. You will champion a culture of AI-accelerated development, where tools like Claude and Cursor are woven into the everyday fabric of how we build. This is not just a management role - it is a founding leadership role with an enduring impact on our mission to deliver autonomous finance and expand BlackLine's office-of-the-CFO footprint.
You'll Get To
- Build and Scale the Krakow BI & Analytics Engineering Team: Lead the hiring, onboarding, and ongoing development of a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team spanning data engineering, BI/analytics, and AI. Be an ambassador for BlackLine's engineering culture in the Krakow hub from day one.
- Deliver the Snowflake Analytics Platform: Own delivery of our modern data platform - Fabric database mirroring from Azure-hosted tenant databases into a canonical Snowflake data model, the Snowflake modelling and semantic layers, and customer-facing Power BI dashboards that turn that data into insight.
- Lead the Agentic Experience Roadmap: Guide the team from analytics into applied AI - building true agentic agents for risk analysis, credit management, cash allocation, and Disputes & Deductions management, delivering a mix of Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) and Human-on-the-Loop (HOTL) experiences on BlackLine's BL 3.0 Agentic framework, integrated with our existing web applications.
- Lead, Coach, and Grow Your Team: Own the career development, performance, and wellbeing of your direct reports across a varied set of specialisms. Conduct regular 1:1s, provide meaningful feedback, and create growth paths that retain and attract top talent in a competitive Krakow market.
- Drive Delivery and Execution: Partner with Product Management to align on priorities, manage engineering capacity, and ensure the team consistently delivers high-quality software and data products on time. Remove blockers, manage risk, and keep commitments.
- Champion AI-Accelerated Development: Cultivate a team mindset and workflow that embraces modern agentic development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude) as force multipliers for velocity and quality - and hold the bar high for what great engineering looks like in this era.
- Shape Engineering Culture and Standards: Establish and uphold best practices across the full stack of the team's work - data pipeline reliability and observability, data quality and lineage, dimensional and semantic modelling standards, code quality, CI/CD, testing, and security. Set the tone for a culture of ownership, craft, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Serve as the primary engineering leadership voice in conversations with Product, Design, and senior stakeholders, and with the analytics and office-of-the-CFO consumers of the team's output. Translate business goals into actionable engineering plans and communicate engineering realities clearly to non-technical partners.
- Contribute to Strategic Roadmap Planning: Participate in quarterly and annual planning cycles, providing technical and capacity input that shapes the product roadmap, the data platform architecture, and long-term agentic-AI direction.
- Sustain Enterprise-Grade Quality: Ensure the team's output - data pipelines, analytics, and AI agents alike - meets the reliability, performance, accuracy, and security standards required by a global SaaS platform serving finance and accounting professionals worldwide.
Technical / Specialized Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proven experience leading and growing engineering teams in a SaaS product environment, with a track record of hiring, developing, and retaining engineers at multiple seniority levels.
- Strong technical foundation in data engineering and analytics - hands-on experience with cloud data platforms and pipelines, ideally including Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, and Power BI / DAX, and dimensional or semantic data modelling - sufficient to earn trust with your engineers and make sound architectural trade-offs.
- Solid grounding in application engineering - production-grade, scalable, secure services, ideally in C# / .NET - and comfort leading integration with modern web applications (React / C# / SQL Server / PostgreSQL).
- Awareness of, or genuine enthusiasm for, building agentic AI / LLM-based experiences (including HITL and HOTL patterns) and integrating them into enterprise products.
- Experience managing in an AI-augmented engineering environment, or a genuine enthusiasm and aptitude for adopting AI-driven development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude) to raise team velocity and quality.
- Demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional delivery, aligning engineering, product, and design stakeholders around shared goals and managing execution with clarity and accountability.
- Strong people management skills, including structured performance management, career development frameworks, and the ability to have direct, compassionate conversations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable representing the team to senior leadership and working effectively across time zones and cultures.
- A high engineering bar: you understand what great looks like in data quality, pipeline reliability, code quality, CI/CD, testing, and observability, and you hold the team to that standard.
We're Even More Excited If You Have
- Experience standing up a new engineering team or office, especially in a greenfield or hub-expansion context where you shaped culture from scratch.
- Experience delivering a cloud data-warehouse migration or modernisation (e.g., to Snowflake) and building customer-facing embedded analytics.
- Hands-on exposure to agentic AI, LLM orchestration, or ML-driven decisioning in a production enterprise setting.
- Background in regulated industries such as finance, accounting, or fintech, giving you sensitivity to the compliance and reliability requirements our customers depend on - and to the office-of-the-CFO analytics use cases this team serves.
- Familiarity with cloud-native architectures and experience guiding teams building on Azure (and comfort across AWS or Google Cloud).
- Knowledge of Responsible AI principles and how to guide a team in applying them responsibly when leveraging AI-generated code and autonomous agents in production.
- A history of strong cross-timezone collaboration with engineering and product leadership in distributed organizations.
