We are seeking a Machinist I to join our team and support the production of precision parts and components in a low-volume, high-mix job shop environment. In this role, you will operate manual or CNC machine tools while learning and developing core machining skills under the guidance of experienced machinists. You will assist with machine setup, blueprint interpretation, material selection, program support, and basic quality inspections to ensure parts meet specifications. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in machining while gaining hands-on experience with a variety of equipment, materials, and manufacturing processes.
What You’ll Do:
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Operate manual and/or CNC machines on straightforward jobs under direct guidance
- Assist with machine setup, tool changes, and workholding
- Learn to interpret basic blueprints and specifications with supervisor support
- Perform basic in-process checks using calipers, micrometers, and gauges under guidance
- Load and run existing CNC programs; do not independently write or edit programs
- Deburr, finish, and package completed parts
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements
The Experience We’re Looking For:
- 0-2 years of machine shop experience, or completion of a relevant apprenticeship program
- Basic shop math (fractions, decimals, angles) and ability to use standard measuring tools
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions closely
- Basic mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and proper PPE usage, including working at heights
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license
- Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests
- Able to work outdoors in all weather, at heights (100+ ft), in confined spaces, and around high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery
- Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs and enduring extended physical activity
- Requires good vision, hearing, and English proficiency for safe, effective communication in noisy environments
