The Environmental Engineer (Radiological) is responsible for supporting environmental planning, impact assessments, permitting, compliance, and environmental monitoring activities for the development, construction, operation, and decommissioning of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) facilities. The role combines traditional environmental engineering expertise with specialized knowledge of radiological protection, environmental radioactivity.
Environmental Impact Assessment
- Lead and support environmental impact assessments (EIA/ESIA) for SMR projects.
- Evaluate potential environmental effects associated with plant construction, operation, waste management, and decommissioning activities.
- Assess both radiological and non-radiological impacts on air quality, water resources, soil, ecosystems, and surrounding communities.
- Support development of environmental management and mitigation plans.
Radiological Environmental Assessments
- Conduct radiological impact assessments for routine operations and postulated accident scenarios.
- Assess radionuclide transport through atmospheric, terrestrial, and aquatic pathways.
- Perform public dose assessments and environmental risk studies.
- Support development of source term analyses and environmental consequence evaluations.
- Apply ALARA principles to environmental and radiological protection programs.
