What we do...
HindlePower has been designing and manufacturing industrial (non-commercial) battery chargers and dc power systems for the utility industry for over 35 years. Our staff and products serve the power generation and distribution market, switchgear OEMs, power substations, the oil and gas industry, and various transportation maintenance facilities. We are the leaders in our industry and have customers in all 50 states plus additional countries worldwide.
Battery cabinets are engineered enclosures that bring our chargers, dc distribution, and batteries together into a complete system.
What you'll do...
We are looking for a Production Supervisor to lead the team that builds our battery cabinets. This is a real supervisory role. You own the performance of your area and the people in it, not just the schedule.
You will set the standard for how work gets done in your area, develop the people on your team, and keep production moving predictably day to day. You will work closely with Quality, Supply Chain, and Engineering to keep material, drawings, and priorities lined up with what your team needs to build.
Leading your team
- Own performance for your team, including setting clear expectations, giving regular feedback, and completing reviews
- Approve timecards and time off requests, and manage staffing coverage against the production schedule
- Have a real voice in who joins your team, including interviewing candidates
- Build depth on your team, including developing working leads within your area
- Support onboarding, training, and cross training so people can move between stations as demand shifts
Running the area
- Accountable for your area against safety, quality, on time delivery, productivity, and labor efficiency, and for taking action when targets are at risk
- Assign and prioritize work based on the production schedule, staffing levels, and material availability
- Respond quickly to disruptions and restore standard operations
- Raise issues that originate outside your area rather than working around them
- Keep the area safe, clean, and organized, and follow through on safety concerns
Working across the company
- Partner with Quality to identify, investigate, and resolve defects, and hold process control at the team level
- Partner with Supply Chain on material availability, staging, and inventory accuracy within your area
- Partner with Engineering on drawing questions, product changes, and manufacturability
- Identify and lead continuous improvement work in your area
What you bring...
Experience and background
- Experience supervising or leading a team in a manufacturing or production environment
- Strong understanding of shop floor operations, workflow, and production scheduling
- Experience working cross functionally with Quality, Supply Chain, or Engineering
- Comfort working in an ERP system for scheduling and inventory. We use Made2Manage (M2M) and Shop Floor Manager (SFM), and we will train you on ours
Leadership and skills
- Willingness to have direct conversations, including the uncomfortable ones. We hold a high standard and we support people in reaching it, and that only works if the honest conversation actually happens
- Ability to coach and develop people, not just direct them
- Strong communication, organization, and problem solving skills
- Comfort making decisions in a fast paced manufacturing environment
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
Where this goes...
Battery cabinets sit inside HindlePower Advanced Integrations, the part of our business we are deliberately building out right now. As that business grows, the leadership structure around it grows with it.
We promote from within whenever we can. Building the bench underneath you is part of this job, and it is also how you make room for yourself to move up.
