Major Duties
As a Supervisory Hydrologic Technician within the Idaho Falls Field Office, some of your specific duties will include: Responsible for the technical and administrative supervision of a large and complex staff in professional, technical, clerical and administrative work to carry out the mission of the organization. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates; makes assignments based on capability and expertise; evaluates the subordinate supervisors' performance and the performance of those employees reporting directly to him/her; gives advice or instruction to subordinates on work and administrative matters. The incumbent shares the responsibility of IDWSC's engagement with the public and local partners. They supply pertinent water resources information to Federal, State, local, and Tribal agencies through various channels including meetings, briefings, emails, and phone communications. The incumbent is responsible for planning and scheduling the construction and maintenance of 83 sites (including streamgages, water-quality stations, discrete monitoring locations, and groundwater wells), and periodic groundwater and QW synoptics including hundreds of potential sites managed by their section of the Upper Columbia Idaho Field Office. Physical Demands - The work regularly requires considerable dexterity, agility, and strenuous physical exertion such as: climbing and/or working from tall ladders and scaffolding; work in areas where footing is treacherous such as slippery riverbanks, steep rocky terrain, or fast-moving water; lifting heavy objects weighing 23 kilograms (50 pounds) or more or crouching or crawling in restricted areas. Work Environment - Office conditions do not require special safety precautions; field conditions may include extreme heat or cold, rain or snow, possible aggressive wildlife encounters, and hazardous conditions such as ice or flooding, or exposure to irritant or toxic chemicals.
