Description
Reporting to the Group Manager – Environment, Social & Governance, the Sustainability Data Analyst is a new position that will play a key role in strengthening sustainability data management, governance and reporting across Harmony Australasia. Working closely with ESG, site and corporate teams, IT/data specialists and sustainability data peers in Harmony Group (South Africa), the role will help embed consistent data practices and support reliable, decision-useful sustainability reporting.
A key focus of the role will be to establish efficient, fit-for-purpose sustainability data flows across Harmony Australasia. This includes mapping, governing and integrating sustainability data from multiple source systems and off-system processes into the Australasia Data Lake and other reporting platforms. In doing so, the role will contribute to the broader Australasia data strategy by improving data governance, system integration and the availability of trusted information to support performance monitoring and business decision-making.

ResponsibilitiesSustainability Data Management, Governance & Controls:
- Support the ESG team in delivering consistent, reliable sustainability data for reporting and decision-making.
- Identify and prioritise data required to meet organisational metrics, targets, and reporting obligations.
- Lead and coordinate sustainability data collection, validation, quality assurance (QA/QC) across site and corporate teams.
- Act as the key interface with Australasia site teams, the Brisbane regional office, Harmony Group (South Africa) and data owners to align sustainability data requirements, reporting obligations and business needs.
- Define and maintain data definitions, methodologies, controls and supporting documentation to promote consistency, traceability, auditability and evidence-based reporting.
- Act as the first point of contact for sustainability platforms and source systems overseen by the ESG team (e.g. Borealis), coordinating user support and training, data governance, enhancement requests and issue resolution.
Systems, Integration and Reporting:
- Integrate sustainability data from multiple source systems and off-system processes into enterprise platforms (e.g. Data Lake, Power BI) to support a governed single source of truth.
- Work closely with IT/data teams to define data requirements, data flows and reporting outputs.
- Develop and maintain dashboards, visualisations and reporting outputs, monitoring for trends, and anomalies and data quality issues.
Assurance, Stakeholder Engagement & Capability:
- Support sustainability data assurance activities, including audit preparation, evidence provision and issue resolution.
- Collaborate with Harmony Group (South Africa) sustainability data peers, reporting teams and assurance stakeholders to align data requirements and outputs.
- Guide and train site and corporate teams on sustainability data practices and quality.
- Support sustainability inputs to executive and Board reporting, as required.
QualificationsTo succeed in this role, you should be initiative-taking and able to work efficiently and collaboratively with the following experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in data science, analytics, environmental science, sustainability, engineering, GIS or a related discipline.
- Approximately 3–5 years' experience in data analysis, reporting, or analytics roles.
- Experience working with enterprise data systems and reporting tools, such as Power BI or sustainability platforms.
- Confident facilitating discussions, challenging data anomalies and driving resolution of issues in a constructive and professional manner.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to maintain clear documentation, trace decisions and support recommendations with evidence.
- Strong capability in data handling, manipulation, and analysis (e.g. Excel, SQL, Python, or similar).
- Strong analytical capability, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and flag anomalies or inconsistencies.
- Ability to work across ESG, operational, and IT/data teams to align data inputs and reporting outputs.
- Well organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet reporting deadlines.
Desirable:
- Experience working with sustainability, environmental, social, GIS and/or operational datasets.
- Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks (e.g. IFRS, ASRS, GRI, NGERS).
- Exposure to data governance, QA/QC, or assurance processes.
- Familiarity or interest in emerging tools (e.g. AI, scripting, or automation) to improve data workflows.
