Help preserve and improve America's national parks! Join the National Park Service as a Maintenance Worker (Trails) repairing and maintaining trails, bridges, boardwalks, and stone structures while working in scenic backcountry settings. This vacancy uses the Field Unit Local Hiring (FUL) Authority. Applicants must reside in one of the following Washington state counties; Mason, Jefferson, Clallam, Grays Harbor. Major Duties
This position is located within the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Pacific West Region, Olympic National Park in Port Angeles, Washington. The major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Build, repair, and maintain park trails, bridges, boardwalks, retaining walls, and other trail structures. Use hand and power tools to complete masonry, carpentry, and trail maintenance projects in remote outdoor settings. Restore trails by repairing erosion, improving drainage, removing hazards, and protecting natural and cultural resources. Operate and maintain vehicles, equipment, and tools used to transport materials and complete trail construction and repair projects. Work safely in backcountry environments while hiking long distances and carrying tools, equipment, and materials to project sites. Assist with planning and completing trail projects by following drawings, work orders, and supervisor instructions. Lead or assist volunteer crews during trail maintenance and construction projects while promoting safe work practices.
