This role is instrumental in overseeing and enhancing the environmental assurance processes in line with legislative requirements, client expectations, and company project standards.
Key Duties
- Support the execution and application of the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP).
- Communicate the stipulations of the CEMP effectively to all site staff and contractors, ensuring compliance.
- Perform regular inspections and audits, addressing any needed corrective and preventative measures.
- Collaborate with construction and operational teams to facilitate robust environmental risk management.
- Organize and lead the creation of environmental method statements.
- Handle the investigation and documentation of environmental incidents, guaranteeing thorough resolution.
- Design and deliver training sessions and presentations to raise environmental awareness among site personnel.
- Execute monitoring, inspection, and auditing tasks to uphold environmental standards.
- Collect, analyze, and report on environmental data relevant to the project site.
- Contribute to the preparation of compliance reports in line with environmental permit conditions.
- Supervise contractors and consultants engaged in environmental services to ensure quality and compliance.
Requirements
- A National Higher Diploma, Bachelor of Technology, or a degree in Environmental Management or a related field is preferred.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in environmental roles.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and administrative tasks.
- Knowledgeable about Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) laws and their implementation.
- At least 3 to 5 years of civil inspection experience, specifically with waste and water treatment plants, water retaining structures, reservoirs, pump stations, and pipelines within major construction projects.
- Deep understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Acts.
- Certifications in SAMTRAC, SHEMTRAC, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment, Legal Compliance Assessments, Construction Regulations, and other similar NOSA or equivalent training.
- Familiarity with the Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) methodology.
