This position is located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS), Space Weather Office (SWO).
Major Duties
This specific position will be filled in Lanham, MD and the initial certificate of eligibles will be issued for that location. Additional duty locations are listed for future vacancies and/or vacancies that may be filled throughout the Department of Commerce. Please select locations for which you want to be considered. As a General Engineer, you will perform the following duties: Provide technical leadership for the Space Weather Ground Services (SWGS) team. Lead and coordinate ground systems engineering activities across all Space Weather Office (SWO) projects. Oversee Ground Leads assigned to SWO projects and ensure project teams are aligned with organizational goals and engineering standards. Lead the planning, development, and evolution of ground system architectures by translating mission objectives into technical solutions, ensuring system interoperability, scalability, and alignment with enterprise engineering strategies. Oversee the integration, verification, validation, and test readiness of ground system capabilities, coordinating cross-functional engineering teams to ensure successful system performance and mission execution. Represent SWO in National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) enterprise engineering activities. Coordinate with enterprise engineering organizations to ensure alignment with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and NESDIS strategies. Develop and implement mission assurance strategies by identifying technical risks, assessing impacts, establishing mitigation plans, and ensuring compliance with engineering standards, quality requirements, and program readiness criteria. NOTE: These duties are described at the full performance level of the ZP-4; the ZP-3 is developmental leading to such performance. This position will be filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System (CAPS). Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band. The ZP-3 is equivalent to the GS-11/12. The ZP-4 is equivalent to the GS-13/14.
