Summary
This position is located in Natchez Trace Parkway, in the Division of Facility Management. A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.
Major Duties
This position is located at the Natchez Trace Parkway in the Port Gibson Maintenance District, Port Gibson, Mississippi. The primary function of Tractor Operators during the main growing season, from spring to fall, is to mow and maintain the roadsides along the parkway and its access roads. This includes all aspects of maintaining the landscape including operation of tractors, 15' rotary mowers, zero turn and front-deck mowers, string trimmers, brush cutters, chainsaws, and other equipment. The operator is also responsible for maintenance of all equipment used in maintaining the landscape. Tractor Operators also perform some general maintenance on the parkway's infrastructure. This includes pavement maintenance such as crack sealing, patching holes, cleaning ditches and bridges, and pulling road shoulders as well as building maintenance including plumbing, painting, roofing, rough carpentry, and minor electrical work. Tractor operators also occasionally perform some custodial duties at public rest stations and park offices. Tractor operators assist in the removal of hazardous trees and limbs and serve as the primary equipment operators. Tractor operators are expected to respond to emergency call outs outside of regular work hours for downed and hazardous trees and limbs on the road. Tractor operators often work independently or in small groups away from administrative areas and therefore possess all necessary authority and autonomy to carry out normal duty assignments.
