Summary
The typical seasonal EOD period for this position is November through April, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: Early to mid-November 2026.
Major Duties
This position is located in Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve in the Maintenance Division. Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve: Gustavus Alaska Major Duties: Operates and performs operator maintenance on various types of motor vehicles up to 10,000 pounds. Loads and unloads cargo, using appropriate tie-downs. Performs flagging duties for heavy equipment operators. Corrects and reports park hazards. Transports passengers and cargo on public roadways in various traffic, road, and weather conditions. Occasionally leads a crew in the performance of these duties. (WG 05 only) Physical Effort: Moderate physical effort may be required in making couplings between the vehicle and towed equipment. Considerable physical effort may be required to change tires and make limited emergency repairs. Required to frequently lift items weighing over 50 pounds. Work may involve climbing of ladders, scaffolding, and working in and around power tools and equipment. Working Conditions: Incumbent is required to work outside and is exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures. Operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and is exposed to dirt and fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or from falling objects when loading and unloading the vehicle.
