About this role | Kō tēnei tūranga mahi
This is a great opportunity to combine your leadership and technical skills to lead a small, dedicated unitary planning team in the beautiful Top of the South / Te Tau Ihu.
Supported by a Manager with lots of great experience, you’ll provide day to day leadership and operational management of the Environmental Policy & Planning team (in addition to contributing to your own programme of work).
We develop, change and review Nelson’s resource management policies, plans and environmental bylaws with a focus on improving our future and safeguarding our environment, building community resilience, and improving the supply of land for housing and business development in the region.
To do this, our team provides environmental policy and planning advice on the full range of resource management issues of interest to the Whakatū Nelson community, including urban development, air quality, biodiversity, landscape, hazards, coastal, freshwater, heritage, and open space.

About you | Ko ngā pūmanawa ōu
You’ll be a credible technical expert using your qualifications and experience to provide best practice policy and strategic advice to our senior leadership team and Council.
Your previous experience in resource management planning will complement your people focus and sound communication and relationship management skills.
You’ll enjoy maintaining an oversight of the teams work programme and using your coaching and mentoring skills to support the team to deliver great environmental outcomes for the Whakatū Nelson region.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, a passion for our environment and sound judgement are essential.
