The Role
Cypress Creek Renewables is seeking a talented Project Engineer to join our team. This position will be focusing on designing and producing engineering documents for ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) system projects. Tasks will range from initial site feasibility analysis through the construction permit process and into construction oversight and verifying conformance with the design documents. This is a remote position that will support multiple project markets across multiple time zones.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist as needed on the design of ground mounted solar PV system projects focusing on the site layout and civil engineering / land development aspects of the projects.
- Read, interpret, and understand all project documentation such as City/County zoning and permitting requirements and produce design solutions to meet the requirements.
- Review due diligence surveys and studies required for design and permitting purposes. Review reports conducted for projects to ensure compliance and determine impacts into the site design.
- Produce engineering plans and details utilizing AutoCAD design software.
- Prepare engineering plan sets to include Grading, Drainage, Erosion Control design, Sections, Profiles, and Details. Ensure designs follow all local, state, and federal standards.
- Produce project civil cost estimates utilizing available project information and data.
- Review project Hydrology and Hydraulics reports, including calculations for the post construction runoff rates and the respective storm water mitigations applicable to Civil site design as well as compliance with local standards.
- Create AutoCAD “base map” drawing that include project constraints and other applicable site data to use for design purposes. Sources may include publicly available data sites, boundary and topographic surveys, environmental features, etc. Ability to export GIS .shp files to AutoCAD and vice versa.
- Produce grading analysis, topographical exhibits, and other AutoCAD Civil3D deliverables.
- Review project Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), determine and follow local standards for land disturbance.
- Review and interpret construction standards and specifications to ensure designs comply.
- Support design team to create a cohesive site design that incorporates design elements from electrical, structural, mechanical engineers, as well as landscape architects and other subcontractors involved with the projects.
- Review local, state, and federal GIS data which can impact site design.
- Learn national codes and standards and apply to renewable energy system projects.
- Interacting with Agency officials and plan checkers as required.
- Travel to project sites and/or meetings as required to support assigned markets.
Preferred Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Engineering degree from an accredited university.
- One year minimum experience in the engineering land development design space, renewable energy field, or equivalent. Experience from internships can be considered if applicable.
- AutoCAD and/or Civil3D experience required. Advanced skills highly desired.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certified preferred, progressively working towards Professional Engineer’s (PE) licensure.
- Utility scale ground mounted solar PV system project experience a plus.
- ArcMap or QGIS experience highly preferred.
- Strong communication skills (oral and written).
Location: We would prefer this resource in one of our offices located in Santa Monica, CA, San Francisco, CA, or Durham, NC

Compensation: The salary range for the position is $90,000-$120,000 plus bonus and benefits. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location.
