Summary
This position is located in Mesa Verde National Park in the Facility Management Roads & Trails Division. Current or former time-limited (temporary and term) employees of a land management agency eligible for permanent positions under the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA). Major Duties
CONTINUED FROM SUMMARY SECTION Career-Seasonal positions are subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectees will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectees are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season for Mesa Verde National Park is January through September and November through December (anticipated non-pay period 10/1 - 10/31) but can be variable during this month due to project requirements or weather conditions. Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee. Major Duties: Operate heavy gasoline or diesel-powered engineering equipment to accomplish heavy construction and/or excavation work on flat or rolling terrain, refuse dumps, and/or construction sites with simple terrain problems. Operate heavy engineering equipment such as tractors with bulldozer or angledozer blades, backhoes, frontend loaders, excavators, wheel loaders, trench diggers, skid steers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments. Operate equipment to push, pull, pile, or load earth, sand, stone, snow, and/or refuse, and maintain ditches, road shoulders and beds, parking lots, and/or fire roads/lines. As instructed, hook up attachments, use booms, and/or adjust engineering equipment settings for level, angle, or depth. Load, secure, and drive equipment to and from project sites. Perform pre-trip safety inspections on engineering equipment and document and report deficiencies to the higher-level operator and/or supervisor.
