Major Duties
Recreation Fee Clerk & Technician Standard Duties: Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc. Perform assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S. Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds. Additional duties for GS-05: Assist higher level personnel with auditing fee collection program components/systems (e.g. cash registers, road/trail registers, honor systems, automated fee machines or AFMs, donation boxes, etc.); assist in completing audit paperwork and documenting findings; communicate audit results to supervisor. Prepare and complete remittance reports and bank deposits for funds donated and/or collected by others. Review shift reports and count funds collected; Investigate and proactively resolve routine or recurring discrepancies, and track overages, shortages, and errors. Additional duties for GS-06: Review and verify the functionality of new fee related systems or modifications to existing systems as a result of regulatory and program requirements. Provide informal and formal training and education to employees, partners, volunteers, interns, cooperating association representatives, etc. regarding automated and non-automated fee processes, systems, software programs, tools, etc. Additional duties for GS-07: Serve as a technical authority for the resolution of difficult or sensitive problems associated with the collection, remittance, and deposit of fee revenue and donations.
