Job Description:
Role Purpose
The Assistant Manager / Deputy Manager – EHS will be responsible for implementing and driving Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) systems across Operations & Maintenance (O&M) activities for hybrid renewable energy assets comprising Solar PV plants, Wind Farms, Pooling Substations (PSS), and associated HV/EHV transmission infrastructure. The role will ensure zero-harm operations through strict adherence to statutory requirements, company EHS standards, and industry best practices while fostering a proactive safety culture across employees and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
EHS Management
- Implement and monitor EHS management systems across hybrid renewable energy assets, including Solar PV plants, Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs), Pooling Substations, and transmission infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with applicable statutory regulations, ISO 45001 & ISO 14001 standards, and company EHS policies.
- Drive a proactive safety culture through Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS), safety campaigns, and employee engagement initiatives.
O&M Safety
- Ensure safe execution of preventive, predictive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance activities across solar, wind, electrical substations, and transmission systems.
- Monitor compliance with Permit to Work (PTW), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical isolation, confined space entry, work at height, lifting operations, hot work, and excavation safety.
- Conduct field safety inspections and verify implementation of critical risk controls.
Contractor Safety Management
- Manage EHS compliance of O&M contractors, service providers, OEM personnel, and vendors.
- Conduct contractor safety inductions, competency assessments, and periodic performance evaluations.
- Ensure contractor compliance with statutory requirements and company safety standards.
Hazard Identification & Risk Management
- Conduct Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and Task Risk Assessments for routine and critical maintenance activities.
- Identify unsafe conditions and behaviours and ensure timely closure of corrective and preventive actions.
Incident Investigation
- Investigate incidents, near misses, dangerous occurrences, and unsafe acts using Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and monitor their effectiveness.
- Maintain incident records and prepare management reports.
Emergency Preparedness
- Develop and implement emergency response plans covering electrical incidents, fire emergencies, rescue from height, confined space rescue, and medical emergencies.
- Organize mock drills and evaluate emergency response readiness.
Compliance & Audits
- Conduct internal EHS audits, statutory inspections, and compliance reviews.
- Ensure closure of audit observations within defined timelines.
- Maintain statutory registers, permits, licenses, safety records, and compliance documentation.
Training & Awareness
- Conduct EHS induction programs, toolbox talks, refresher trainings, and specialized safety programs.
- Promote continuous learning and awareness on electrical safety, working at height, wind turbine safety, and solar O&M hazards.
Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate with O&M, Asset Management, Engineering, Projects, HR, OEMs, contractors, and regulatory authorities on EHS matters.
- Support corporate EHS initiatives and site-level safety improvement projects.
Educational Qualification
- B.E./B.Tech in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or equivalent Engineering.
- Diploma/PG Diploma in Industrial Safety or Occupational Health & Safety (Mandatory).
- NEBOSH, IOSH, ISO 45001 Lead Auditor, or equivalent certifications will be preferred.
Experience
- 10–15 years of EHS experience in the Renewable Energy, Power, Transmission, or Utility sector.
- Mandatory experience in Hybrid Renewable Energy projects (Solar + Wind) covering Operations & Maintenance.
- Hands-on experience supporting Pooling Substations (33/132/220/400 kV) and HV/EHV transmission systems is highly preferred.
- Strong exposure to contractor safety management and high-risk electrical maintenance activities.
