Role Summary
The BESS Product Manager will own the product strategy, roadmap, and lifecycle management of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for utility-scale, commercial & industrial (C&I), and hybrid renewable applications. The role involves product development, system architecture, technology evaluation, market analysis, customer engagement, and cross-functional coordination to deliver competitive and compliant energy storage solutions.
Key Responsibilities Product Strategy & Roadmap
- Define and execute the BESS product roadmap aligned with market requirements.
- Evaluate emerging battery technologies (LFP, NMC, Sodium-Ion, etc.).
- Conduct competitor benchmarking and technology assessments.
- Develop product positioning, value propositions, and go-to-market strategies.
Technical Leadership
- Define system architecture for containerized BESS solutions.
- Lead integration of Battery Packs, BMS, PCS, EMS, HVAC, and Fire Suppression Systems.
- Establish technical specifications, performance KPIs, and design standards.
- Support engineering teams in design optimization and cost reduction initiatives.
Project & Product Development
- Drive new product development from concept to commercialization.
- Coordinate with Electrical, Mechanical, Thermal, Controls, and Software teams.
- Lead pilot deployments, validation testing, and field trials.
- Ensure manufacturability and standardization of BESS products.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with UL9540, UL1973, IEC 62933, IEEE 1547, BIS, and relevant grid codes.
- Drive safety design reviews, thermal runaway mitigation, and fire protection strategies.
- Coordinate certification activities with testing and certification agencies.
Commercial & Customer Engagement
- Support sales and business development teams with technical proposals and customer presentations.
- Engage with utilities, EPCs, IPPs, consultants, and industrial customers.
- Participate in tender reviews, technical clarifications, and product demonstrations.
- Analyze customer feedback and field performance for continuous product improvement.
Desired Skills
- Strong knowledge of BESS architecture and system integration.
- Expertise in Battery Management Systems (BMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), and Power Conversion Systems (PCS).
- Understanding of battery chemistry, thermal management, and safety systems.
- Familiarity with grid integration, renewable energy systems, and power electronics.
- Strong project management and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience with utility-scale and C&I BESS projects.
Qualification
- B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Electrical, Electronics, Power Electronics, Energy Systems, or related discipline.
- MBA (preferred but not mandatory).
- 8–15 years of experience in BESS, Renewable Energy, Power Electronics, Solar + Storage, or Energy Storage product development
