Position Summary
The Regional Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Director provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all environmental, health, and safety programs across multiple business units, projects, or facilities within an assigned region. This position develops and implements EH&S strategies that promote a culture of safety, regulatory compliance, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement while supporting organizational objectives.The Regional EH&S Director partners closely with leadership, operations, human resources, and project teams to reduce risk, prevent incidents, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Leadership
Develop and execute regional EH&S strategic initiatives aligned with corporate objectives.
Lead, mentor, and develop Regional Safety Managers, Environmental Managers, and EH&S professionals.
Foster a proactive culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Serve as the regional subject matter expert for all EH&S matters.
Safety Management
Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive safety programs.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and state regulations.
Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
Lead incident investigations and approve corrective actions.
Environmental Compliance
Oversee SWPPP, hazardous waste, air quality, spill prevention, erosion control, and permitting.
Coordinate with regulatory agencies during inspections.
Regulatory Compliance
Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, state and local regulations, and client requirements.
Ensure timely reporting and documentation.
Risk Management
Identify operational risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Partner with operations to eliminate hazards.
Review subcontractor safety performance.
Training & Development
Develop regional EH&S training strategies.
Lead leadership safety initiatives and behavior-based safety programs.
Performance Management
Track KPIs including TRIR, LTIR, EMR, near misses, vehicle incidents, and environmental metrics.
Present monthly and quarterly reports to executive leadership.
Budget Management
Develop and manage regional EH&S budgets.
Evaluate cost-saving opportunities while maintaining compliance.
Emergency Response
Lead emergency preparedness and crisis management activities.
Collaboration
Partner with Executive Leadership, Operations, HR, Legal, Risk Management, Insurance, Regulatory Agencies, and Clients.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field. Master's degree preferred.12+ years of progressive EH&S experience with at least 5 years in senior leadership. Multi-site or regional leadership experience preferred.
