Summary
This position is located within the Department of the Interior, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Fish & Wildlife Service Region 3, at the Iron River National Fish Hatchery located in Iron River Wisconsin.
Major Duties
At the full performance level (GS-08) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Work individually or as part of a team in all aspects of the daily care and production of fish eggs, fry, fingerling and adult brood stock at a large cold water fish production facility. Perform assignments and general maintenance required for the upkeep of a fish hatchery including use of simple hand tools and power equipment (mowers, trimmers, hammers, saws) and other tools for minor repairs on hatchery facilities, equipment, and grounds. Operate fish distribution tanker units up to 66,000 pounds GVWR. Compile and summarize biological and water quality data for analysis as part of monthly sampling procedures. Support outreach activities including providing basic information to the public and partners about the fish hatchery and its programs. Promotion Potential: This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed represent the full performance level of GS-08. At lower grade levels, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-08. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds. The selectee may be promoted without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
