We are seeking a hands-on Facilities Engineer to keep the physical backbone of Anthro's operations running at peak performance. This is a doing role, not just an overseeing role: you'll be the person who can diagnose a failing HVAC unit, wire up new equipment, fix what breaks, and proactively prevent what might. That said, we know when to bring in outside contractors for specialized work like major HVAC or electrical projects. You'll be the one vetting them and holding them to our standards. You'll support the day-to-day operations of our 30,000+ sq ft lithium-ion battery R&D and manufacturing facility in Alameda, CA, which includes a dryroom, hazardous material storage, laboratories, and office spaces. Anthro is growing fast, and we expect this role to grow with us as scope and complexity continue to evolve.
Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on and/or facilitate maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of facility systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical equipment, and building automation systems
- Maintain and repair dryroom infrastructure — monitoring humidity controls, dehumidification equipment, and environmental sensor systems
- Conduct regular preventative maintenance inspections and respond quickly to equipment failures to minimize facility downtime
- Support installation and commissioning of new lab and manufacturing equipment, including coordinating utility connections (electrical, gas, compressed air, process cooling, exhaust, etc.)
- Track and document all maintenance activities, equipment logs, and work orders within the CMMS system
- Coordinate and oversee outside contractors for specialized repairs, larger capital projects, and inspections while personally handling as much in-house as possible
- Support safety and compliance programs including hazardous materials management, emergency response procedures, and regulatory inspections
- Identify facility improvement opportunities and help scope and execute small capital projects
- 3+ years of hands-on facilities maintenance or facilities engineering experience in an industrial, manufacturing, R&D, or lab environment
- Demonstrated ability to personally troubleshoot and repair HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical building systems
- Experience working in or around hazardous material environments (chemicals, gases, battery materials, or equivalent) with a strong safety mindset
- Familiarity with building management systems (BMS), CMMS platforms, and standard maintenance documentation practices
- Working knowledge of relevant codes and regulations (e.g. OSHA, NFPA, EPA, local building codes)
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and architectural drawings
- Strong problem-solving instincts (diagnose first, fix right, and document clearly)
- 5+ years in facilities or operations management within an R&D, chemical, or manufacturing setting
- Working knowledge of safety codes/regulations relevant to battery, chemical, or hazardous material environments (e.g., OSHA, EPA, NFPA)
- Proficiency with building management systems (BMS), CMMS, and industrial safety protocols
- Excellent organizational, project management, and budgeting skills
- Competitive salary and equity compensation commensurate with experience. Expected salary range for posted level is $105,000-$135,000
- 15 Vacation Days, 10+ Holidays, Sick time off
- Full medical, dental, and vision coverage for team members, 60% coverage for dependents
- 401k with match
- Paid parental leave with flexible return-to-work policy
- Diverse and inclusive work environment
