Job Summary:
|
The Junior Systems & Network Administrator provides essential technical support and operational maintenance for the Zoo’s digital infrastructure. Reporting to the Senior Systems & Network Administrator, this role focuses on the day-to-day administration of hybrid cloud environments, campus connectivity, and end-user support to ensure the stability and security of critical organizational systems.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Infrastructure Support & Cloud Administration
- M365 & Azure Operations: Assist in the administration of SharePoint sites, Teams channels, and Azure IAAS/PAAS environments under senior guidance.
- Identity Management: Perform routine identity tasks including user onboarding/offboarding, password resets, and assisting with Entra ID P2 configurations.
- Virtualization Maintenance: Monitor and maintain virtualized on-prem clusters (Nutanix) and report performance metrics via cloud monitoring tools.
- Backup Verification: Execute and monitor regular backup operations and assist in routine disaster recovery testing.
2. Network Operations & Connectivity
- Network Maintenance: Assist with the physical maintenance and monitoring of campus-wide multi-VLAN architecture and Layer 3 switching.
- Perimeter Support: Support the implementation of firewall rules and monitor security logs for potential threats.
- Wireless Support: Provide hands-on support for high-density Wi-Fi access points and remote Point-to-Multipoint (PtMP) links.
- Deployment Assistance: Assist in IT planning and hardware installation for new zoo exhibits, including cabling and hardware mounting.
3. Project Assistance & Tactical Execution
- Project Support: Execute assigned tasks within larger IT projects, ensuring milestones are met according to the project plan.
- IoT Maintenance: Assist in the physical deployment and basic troubleshooting of IoT sensors (water quality, temperature) across the campus.
- AV/Event Support: Provide technical setup and support for Microsoft Teams Rooms (MTR) and assist in live-streaming educational webinars.
4. Professional Development & Service Desk
- Technical Escalation: Serve as the primary point of contact for the Help Desk team, escalating complex issues to the Senior Administrator.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate system documentation, process guides, and hardware inventory.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Foundational Infrastructure: Working knowledge of Azure environments, M365 administration, and Active Directory fundamentals.
- Networking Basics: Basic understanding of LAN/WAN concepts, VLANs, and wireless connectivity.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues in a timely manner.
- Collaborative Learning: Ability to work under the direction of senior staff while proactively developing technical expertise.
- Communication: Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users and stakeholders.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Languages: English
- Professional Experience: 1 year of experience in IT support or systems/network administration.
- Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in CS, MIS, or a related field; or equivalent experience combined with foundational certifications.
- Systems Expertise: Hands-on experience with Windows 10/11, Windows Server, and basic Office 365 administration.

AddiTIONAL RequireMENTS:
- Availability to accommodate a flexible schedule, including extended hours, holidays, weekends, and a willingness to share on-call duties.
·Participation in a shared on-call rotation and respond to emergency maintenance or operational needs as assigned. When scheduled for on-call duty or during emergency situations, the incumbent must be able to report onsite within 30 minutes. This requirement is considered an essential function of the position due to the operational and safety needs of the organization.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to remain standing/sitting for extended periods.
- Requires hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills for tasks such as grasping, turning, and manipulating objects of varying size and weight.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move objects up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and reach.
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains.
- Requires visual acuity for reading, writing, and observing surroundings, as well as auditory acuity for communication.
- Ability to operate motorized carts, trucks, and power tools.
WORK CONDITIONS
- Exposure to various weather conditions, including extreme heat, sunlight, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
- Potential exposure to allergens (dust, animal dander, pollen, etc.), bloodborne pathogens, zoonotic diseases and injuries from animals.
- Irregular work hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays are sometimes .
- Exposure to hazards such wildlife, waste, equipment, loud noises, chemicals, and heights.
- Working in small, enclosed areas.

TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license and clear driving record and be over age 18 to operate organizational vehicles.
