At Ecotech Solar, we believe in doing right by people—our customers, our coworkers, and our community. We're on a mission to deliver "good energy," and we're looking for someone ready to start a career in the solar trade with a team that takes pride in doing things right.
The Service Technician is where great solar repair pros get their start. You'll work alongside our Service Electrician, learning the trade hands-on with a mentor by your side. No prior experience required. We'll support you on your path to electrical licensure.
If you're early in your career and ready to learn a real trade, this could be the job for you. This is a full-time position based in Bellingham, WA.
About the Role
The Service Technician is the second person on every service visit. You'll ride along with a licensed Service Electrician to homes and businesses across northwest Washington, supporting every step of the visit while you learn the trade one job at a time.
This isn't a desk job. You'll work on rooftops, in attics, and at panel boxes, through summer heat and winter rain. The work is physical and technical, and it matters: customers count on us to keep their solar systems running for decades.
You don't need solar experience to apply. You need a willingness to learn and a real interest in becoming a trades professional. If you're the kind of person who likes figuring out how things work, and who finds satisfaction in chasing down a tricky wiring issue, you'll fit right in. The Service Electrician will be your primary mentor on the truck, and the Service Manager and wider service team will support your growth as you build hours and knowledge toward licensure.
What You'll Do
- Show up prepared. Tools loaded, paperwork reviewed, and your head in the game before the truck rolls out.
- Roll out on multiple service visits per day, working alongside the Service Electrician at homes and businesses across northwest Washington.
- Act as a goodwill ambassador for Ecotech on every visit, with a kind, empathetic, and professional demeanor for every customer you meet.
- Climb ladders, work on rooftops, and crawl through attics. Solar service happens in real spaces, and you'll be in all of them.
- Hand up tools, hold parts steady, pull wire, and document the work as it happens. You handle the tactical work that keeps the day moving.
- Photo everything: every wiring box, serial number, and panel, before and after. Documentation is part of the craft.
- Keep diligent records of your hours, materials used, and what you observed at each site.
- Be a self-driven learner. Pursue working knowledge of solar PV equipment, electrical code, and the way Ecotech does the job right.
- Keep the job site tidy: gear stowed, ladders secured, customer space restored before you leave.
Who You Are
- Curious and mechanically minded. You like figuring out how things work. Taking apart a stubborn device or chasing down an intermittent fault sounds satisfying, not frustrating.
- Coachable. You know you don't know everything yet, and you're eager to learn from someone who's been doing this longer. Feedback doesn't bruise you.
- Patient. You bring something close to zen-like patience to the work. When things don't go according to plan, whether the system won't power back up, the weather turns, or the customer's upset, you stay calm and keep working the problem.
- Good with people. Kind, empathetic, and professional with every customer you meet. You can calmly handle a disappointed homeowner and build real rapport along the way, knowing you represent Ecotech every time you step onto a customer's property.
- Built for physical work. You're comfortable on roofs and ladders, in tight spaces, and carrying gear where it needs to go. You don't shy from the messy parts of the job.
- Driven to grow. You're not just looking for a paycheck. You want to build a career, log your hours, get licensed, and master the trade.
What You Bring
- A valid driver's license and a clean driving record. You'll be on the road every day.
- The physical ability to lift 70+ lbs, climb ladders, and work comfortably on rooftops and in tight spaces.
- Basic mechanical aptitude. You're someone who isn't intimidated by an unfamiliar tool or a new piece of equipment.
- Comfort using a smartphone or tablet for documentation, photos, and apps like Gmail and Google Drive.
- Eligibility to register as an electrical apprentice in Washington State.
- A genuine interest in the solar industry and a commitment to learning the trade for the long haul.
