About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and motivated leader to join us as a Manager, Compliance and Environment, where you will play a key role in shaping safe and compliant learning and working environments across the Department. This role leads a high-performing team responsible for providing expert advice on compliance and environmental strategies, ensuring alignment with legislation and departmental priorities while driving continuous improvement across systems, processes and practices.

About the role
As Manager, Compliance and Environment you will work closely with a broad range of stakeholders to influence outcomes, manage risk, and support the delivery of strategic initiatives. You will:
- Lead and develop a high-performing Compliance and Environment team, fostering capability, adaptability and accountability to deliver strategic priorities within agreed timeframes, quality standards and budget parameters.
- Provide authoritative, specialist advice on compliance and environmental legislation, policy and frameworks to embed best practice in program design and support informed, evidence-based decision-making.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, using effective communication, negotiation and issue resolution to influence outcomes and drive alignment on key priorities.
- Identify and oversee risk assessments, projects relating to all aspects of department workplaces (schools and other), ensuring they are appropriately scoped, coordinated and delivered in accordance with legislative obligations and departmental requirements.
- Monitor, evaluate and continuously improve compliance and environmental processes and systems, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the regulatory environment.
- Oversee the management and integrity of compliance and environmental data systems, ensuring accurate, reliable information is available to support strategic and operational decision-making.
- Lead the preparation and quality assurance of complex reports, briefings and correspondence, contributing to the development and implementation of compliance and environmental strategies, policies and programs.

About you
We are looking for someone with strong leadership capability and experience managing teams in a complex environment, along with demonstrated knowledge of compliance frameworks, environmental obligations, or regulatory settings. You will bring excellent stakeholder engagement skills, the ability to provide clear and authoritative advice, and experience overseeing projects, data systems, and reporting to support informed decision-making.
You will bring:
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to build and lead high-performing, engaged teams
- Strong knowledge of compliance, regulatory frameworks and/or environmental requirements within a complex organisation
- Demonstrated ability to provide clear, authoritative advice to senior stakeholders and support informed decision-making
- Experience managing risk, delivering projects, and driving continuous improvement across systems and processes
- Highly developed stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills
- Strong analytical capability, with experience using data and reporting to inform strategy and operations
- Ability to navigate complexity, set priorities and deliver outcomes within tight timeframes
Essential requirements of the role
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Work, Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field and/or demonstrated equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
- Current driver's licence.
- Expectation that the successful candidate will attend 105 Philip St Parramatta five days a fortnight.
