Summary
The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of assignments at an advanced developmental level designed to increase the skill and knowledge required to perform analytical and operational work in support of the Safety and Occupational Health Program.
Major Duties
The major duties of the Safety and Operational Specialist position include, but are not limited to, the following: Conduct recurring safety/health inspections of facilities and work centers; prepare reports with compliance requirements and abatement recommendations. Participate on inspection teams; apply practical hazard-identification techniques; review prior inspection records and observe closing sessions with management. Provide informal safety instruction/orientation; communicate observed hazards to promote safety awareness and compliance. Develop knowledge of OSHA/NFPA/EPA and NPS policies; learn inspection techniques and mishap investigation basics under close supervision. Support documentation and data entry for inspections; coordinate with the Safety Manager on findings and abatement tracking.
