About IIX
Impact Investment Exchange (IIX) is a pioneer in impact investing, dedicated to reshaping finance for sustainable development. Over the past 17+ years, IIX has built the sustainable investing market through capital mobilization — including the Women’s Livelihood Bond™ Series — enterprise technical assistance, data and impact measurement via IIX Values™, and global advocacy through the Orange Movement™. IIX has mobilized nearly $500M in private-sector capital, positively impacting over 160 million lives and avoiding over 1.9 million metric tons of carbon.
Role Overview
The Vietnam Market Development Manager is a senior market-builder role focused on IIX’s institutional and corporate segment in Vietnam. Based in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, this person will cultivate and deepen IIX’s relationships with commercial banks, large corporates, state-owned enterprises, development finance institutions (DFIs), and relevant regulatory and policy bodies.
This role operates at the institutional end of IIX’s Vietnam market strategy. This position is specifically responsible for building institutional relationships that underpin IIX’s lending and impact finance activities at scale.
A secondary but important function of this position is portfolio liaison: serving as IIX’s in-country point of contact for existing portfolio companies in the Women’s Livelihood Bond™ series, supporting the Singapore-based Credit Portfolio Management team with local engagement, follow-ups, and on-the-ground intelligence.
The successful candidate will bring strong institutional relationship-building instincts, an established network spanning Vietnam’s commercial banks, large corporates and state-owned enterprises, and a genuine commitment to gender lens and climate finance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Institutional Market Development
- Build and deepen IIX’s relationships with commercial banks, joint-stock banks, foreign bank branches, state-owned commercial banks, large corporates, state-owned enterprises, and development finance institutions across Vietnam.
- Represent IIX at senior-level industry forums, banking association events, and stakeholder engagements to grow institutional credibility and brand visibility.
- Monitor trends in Vietnam’s sustainable finance, climate finance, corporate ESG, and banking landscape and provide regular market intelligence to IIX leadership.
2. Deal Pipeline Generation
- Proactively source and qualify new deal opportunities with commercial banks, large corporates, and state-owned enterprises meeting IIX’s impact and financial criteria.
- Conduct initial screening and relationship management for prospective borrowers and financing partners, facilitating structured handoff to the Singapore-based Credit Portfolio Management team for formal credit assessment.
- Support the development and structuring of financing solutions including climate finance instruments, blended finance structures, and gender-responsive lending products in collaboration with IIX’s Sustainable Finance team.
3. Portfolio Company Liaison
- Serve as the primary in-country contact for existing IIX portfolio companies in Vietnam, maintaining regular relationship touchpoints and monitoring borrower performance on the ground.
- Coordinate with the Singapore-based Credit Portfolio Management team on covenant compliance, reporting inputs, and any early-warning signals from portfolio companies.
- Support portfolio companies in strengthening their ESG, gender, and climate impact reporting as required by IIX’s investment standards.
4. Financial Advisory & Capacity Building
- Provide technical assistance to financial institutions, corporate partners and impact investment ecosystem partners on climate finance eligibility, gender-responsive finance, and sustainable finance product development.
- Deliver advisory support on IIX’s impact instruments, including the Orange Guarantee™ and blended finance structures, to banking and corporate counterparties.
- Support preparation of proposals aligned with green taxonomy, gender criteria, and development finance standards.
5. Policy Engagement & Thought Leadership
- Engage with the State Bank of Vietnam, Ministry of Finance, development partners, and industry bodies to advance sustainable and inclusive finance frameworks in Vietnam.
- Contribute to IIX’s thought leadership through market reports, policy briefs, and participation in industry working groups at both national and regional levels.
What We’re Looking For
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Banking, Economics, Development Finance, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Professional certifications (CFA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent) are an advantage.
Professional Experience
- 10+ years of experience in commercial banking, corporate finance, development finance, or institutional financial advisory in Vietnam.
- Demonstrated track record of building and managing senior relationships with commercial banks, large corporates, state-owned enterprises, and/or DFIs in Vietnam — with coverage across both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
- Experience in institutional market development, corporate banking, or strategic business development — not purely a credit analysis or back-office background.
- Exposure to impact investment, climate finance, ESG frameworks, or gender lens investing is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with international organizations, DFIs, or multilateral partners is an advantage.
Technical Skills
- Strong institutional relationship management and partnership-building capabilities; comfortable engaging at C-suite and senior executive level across banks, corporates, and government entities.
- Working knowledge of financial products, corporate credit fundamentals, and financial statements sufficient to qualify deal opportunities and liaise effectively with the Credit team.
- Familiarity with climate finance frameworks (green taxonomy, ESG standards, climate risk) and gender lens investing approaches.
- Proficiency in standard business tools; digital and AI literacy for research, market mapping, and reporting efficiency.
Languages
- Fluency in Vietnamese and English is required.
Preferred Attributes
- Established senior network within Vietnam’s banking sector, state-owned enterprise ecosystem, DFI community, or sustainable finance landscape, spanning both HCMC and Hanoi.
- Experience in sectors such as renewable energy, clean infrastructure, sustainable agriculture, or inclusive finance.
- Comfortable operating with significant autonomy in a lean, mission-driven team while managing multiple institutional relationships simultaneously.
- Strong personal commitment to gender equality, climate action, and sustainable development.
