Description
Fervo is working to build the most cost-effective, repeatable geothermal power plants in the world. Delivering on this mission requires deep subsurface understanding, disciplined execution in the field, and continuous learning across the full project lifecycle. Joining Fervo’s Subsurface organization means operating at the intersection of geology, engineering, and real-world execution where data-driven decisions directly shape development outcomes.
The Exploration Geologist will support Fervo Energy’s geological modeling workstream to achieve our geothermal energy development goals. This position will play a key role in evaluating resource opportunities and executing exploration activities across Fervo’s growing project portfolio. Responsibilities will include working with geophysical and geological datasets to build three-dimensional conceptual models of geothermal reservoirs, developing geothermal play concepts in new basins, acreage evaluation and prospect ranking, and developing Fervo’s exploration strategy. In addition, the Exploration Geologist will support wellsite geology activities for Fervo’s exploration drilling programs.
Requirements
Responsibilities
- Integrate geologic, geochemical, and geophysical datasets to build and update 3D geologic models across Fervo’s geothermal portfolio.
- Identify growth opportunities for Fervo’s development portfolio through greenfield and nearfield development opportunities and acquisitions.
- Develop petrophysical and geomechanical datasets and evaluate subsurface state of stress to inform wellfield and completions design.
- Assist with asset management, resource reserve estimates, and investment analysis/diligence.
- Perform offset well analysis to develop geologic prognoses, evaluate wellbore stability, and support well planing.
- Supervise mudlogging, wireline logging, sampling, and other wellsite geology activities
- Travel periodically to field sites (mostly in western US) as required. During active drilling campaigns travel may increase up to 25%.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in geology, geophysics, or related discipline
- Geologist experience in the geothermal, mining, and/or oil & gas industries
- Proficiency in 3D modeling software (Leapfrog, Petrel, EarthVision, or similar) and GIS software (ArcGIS, Global mapper)
- Driven self-starter & team player, willing to plan and execute with little oversight
Preferred
- Masters’s degree in geology, geophysics, or related discipline
- Experience in data analytics, geostatistics, and uncertainty analysis
- Operations geology experience during active drilling campaigns
- Exposure to geomechanics, fracture characterization, or subsurface stress analysis
- Experience in petrophysical log interpretation
