Description
The Certifications Specialist supports Schluter®-Systems by managing, executing, and advancing all sustainability and product certification activities across the company’s North American operations. This role plays a key part in ensuring that Schluter products—such as uncoupling membranes, waterproofing systems, building panels, drains, and profiles—meet the environmental, technical, and performance standards expected by customers, distributors, and the broader building industry.
The Specialist serves as a subject matter expert who collaborates with R&D, Product Management, Technical Services, Manufacturing, and Marketing to ensure certification requirements are met and that sustainability objectives are integrated into product development and documentation.
· Serve, manage, and execute the certification lifecycle for Schluter®-Systems products, including new certifications, renewals, and ongoing compliance activities.
· Provide subject-matter expertise on standards and sustainability requirements relevant to Schluter’s product portfolio (e.g., membranes, building panels, mortars, profiles).
· Maintain accurate documentation and technical files required for environmental declarations, product certifications, and compliance submissions.
· Collaborate with R&D and Engineering to interpret test results, material compositions, and product specifications as part of certification requirements.
· Track and maintain certifications such as LEED-related documentation, EPDs, HPDs, VOC emission certifications, and other related building industry standards.
· Conduct data collection and technical analysis needed for certification applications, supplier documentation, and regulatory frameworks.
· Support Product Management and Marketing by providing verified sustainability claims and certification information for technical literature, training content, and customer-facing materials.
· Prepare reports on sustainability performance, certification status, cost impacts, and industry trends for internal and external stakeholders.
· Work with the Sustainability and Standards Manager to align corporate sustainability goals with Schluter’s North American product strategy.
· Serve as the primary point of contact for certification bodies, testing laboratories, and industry organizations.
· Represent Schluter®-Systems in relevant sustainability, standards, or building industry forums and events.
· Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
· Associate’s degree or higher in environmental science, sustainability, engineering, or a related technical field.
· Minimum of 3 years of experience in sustainability, product certification, material compliance, or related roles within the building materials industry.
· Alternatively, 5+ years of experience with technical data, certification processes, or industry-related technical support may substitute for formal education.
· Familiarity with certification programs relevant to building products (e.g., LEED, BREEAM, VOC emissions, EPDs, HPDs, or similar frameworks).
· Strong analytical and organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
· Effective communication skills for cross-departmental collaboration and external interactions.
· Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced technical environment.
