As Environmental Officer you will be the ship specialist on environmental matters, supervising the implementation of the Company's Environmental policy and procedures, verifying compliance with applicable national and international laws and training department Managers and Crew responsible for compliance with environmental requirements.
Level: 3 stripes Senior Officer
This is a SHIPBOARD role. You must: - Be genuinely interested in a career at sea and willing to live and work onboard a Disney Cruise Line vessel
- Be willing to follow and perform safety role, emergency responsibilities, and associated responsibilities as specified in the ship Assembly Plan
- Be willing to uphold the general safety management responsibilities as specified in the Safety Management System in areas and operations under their control
- If applicable, be willing to share a confined cabin with other crew members and appreciative of working and living in a multicultural environment that has strict rules and regulations
Your Responsibilities: - Have a valid passport and C1/D Seaman's visa (DCL will provide you with documents to obtain this)
- Complete a pre-employment medical

- Bring approved work shoes
**Disney Cruise Line is a drug-free workplace. All new hires are required to undergo drug/alcohol testing within the first week onboard and throughout their contracts. Failure to pass the drug/alcohol testing will result in immediate termination. - Ship specialist on environmental matters - supervises ship and Island implementation of DCL Environmental policy and procedures and verifies that the vessel is operated in compliance with applicable national and international laws, including all required logs and records.
- Train ship and island dept. managers and Crew who are responsible for compliance with environmental requirements and monitor / coordinate their actions.
- Supervise implementation of company environmental policy and procedures (waste management; pollution prevention/response; hazardous materials - purchase, storage, use) and sees that the vessel is operated in compliance with MARPOL (Int. Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships) and other applicable international and national laws.
- Provides professional and social guidance to subordinates by exemplary personal behaviour.
- Maintain required environmental Logs & records and verify proper record keeping by Depts. I.E. Oil Record Book, Deck Log.
- Maintain Garbage Record Book required by MARPOL Annex V
- See that all required Placards and notices are posted in appropriate locations
- Coordinate Environmental Committee Meetings and report
- Collection, processing, storage, and proper garbage disposal and other waste
- Informs Bridge OOW of any “waste” disposal and logs as required
- Continuously improve methods to minimize waste, foster recycling,
- Manage waste processing spaces and waste storage areas (clean & organized)
- Coordinate the equipment maintenance and calibration with Engineering as per AMOS.
- Supervise ordering, loading, labelling, storage, use, & proper offload / disposal
- Maintain ship master MSDS file and monitor dept. MSDS files - coordinate with M&T Ops
- See protective equipment available / used and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) Stations maintained
- Coordinate with Chief Officer Safety on training Spill Response Teams for HazMat & Oil and see that appropriate response equipment is ordered and maintained
- Potable water sampling and testing (E-Coli, yeast, other bacteria) following the Potable Water – Onboard Tests for E-coli OG in SMS 7 Environmental Appendix 1 and review Bridge and Engine Carry out required monthly potable water testing and report results to the Vice President Marine and Technical Operations
- Implement Pest Management program by contractor and ship personnel
- Labelling, storage, safe application, routine bating/spraying schedule
- Oversee the swimming pools and whirlpools operation including maintaining chemical levels, chlorination/cleaning log and other actions to meet all USPH requirements.
- Monitor noise levels and hearing conservation actions
- Monitor respiratory protection measures – filters, equipment, procedures
- Train all Crew on basic environmental responsibilities and:
- Advise ship leaders on operations impacting the environment
- Notify applicable leaders of new regulations or procedures
- Assist Staff Captain in his role in complying with USPH regulations as required.
- Communicate with other Environmental and Food Safety and Sanitation Officers to provide input to Marine and Technical Operations and QA for revisions to SMS 7 Environmental and SMS 8 Food Safety and Sanitation.
- Coordination and administration of weekly Crew Accommodation Inspections
- Prepare team schedule, compile & distribute report
- Confers with the Island Maintenance Manager on current environmental issues
- Monitors waste management activities on the Island
- Provides training assistance and support as needed.
- Reviews and signs the Island Waste Management Log, noting significant issues or actions.
- Sees that personnel files for the positions under them in the chain of command are maintained
- Emergency Duties as specified in the ship Assembly / Emergency Function Plan
