Role:
The Sr. Manager, Environmental Health and Safety will serve as the strategic and hands-on leader for Environmental Health and Safety across Century Therapeutics’ Branchburg, NJ, Philadelphia, PA, and Boston, MA sites. Based in Branchburg (NJ), you will provide both on-site and virtual support to ensure regulatory compliance, lead safety initiatives, and manage the day-to-day EHS programs, processes, and activities that keep our teams safe. This role partners closely with scientific and operational groups, oversees third-party EHS contractors, and plays a key role in strengthening a proactive, engaged safety culture aligned with the company’s mission.
The expected salary range for this role is approximately $172,000 - $185,000 depending on experience. Additional benefits offered include but are not limited to an annual performance-based bonus (prorated by start date), medical, dental, and vision insurance, matching 401K plan, and 20+ days per-year of PTO (prorated by start date).
- Lead Century Therapeutics’ EHS strategy to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all applicable state and local regulatory requirements.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve comprehensive health, safety, and environmental programs across laboratory, manufacturing, and office environments.
- Maintain OSHA records, oversee incident reporting, conduct investigations, and drive corrective and preventive action programs.
- Manage chemical safety programs, including SDS documentation, hazard communication, and chemical/material screening.
- Oversee specialized compliance programs such as fire safety, hot work, hearing conservation, PPE requirements, and emergency preparedness.
- Provide clear EHS guidance and deliver required training, including OSHA courses, emergency response, first responder instruction, and hazard-specific education.
- Support new hire onboarding and lead initiatives that build a proactive and engaged safety culture.
- Facilitate safety meetings with leadership to reinforce accountability and ensure alignment with companywide safety priorities.
- Conduct hazard assessments and recommend appropriate engineering controls, administrative controls, and PPE.
- Collaborate with Facilities, Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering to integrate EHS considerations into equipment design, process development, and operational workflows.
- Represent Century Therapeutics during audits, inspections, and interactions with regulatory agencies, insurers, contractors, and vendors.
- Manage third-party EHS contractors and oversee employee PPE programs, including safety footwear and prescription eyewear.
- Serve as a visible leader and champion for safety, promoting shared accountability and continuous improvement across all levels of the organization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- 10+ years of EHS related hands-on experience with responsibility for implementing and enforcing EHS programs.
- Robust knowledge of working in regulated (GMP) environments.
- Strong stakeholder management is required.
- Cell therapy or related industry with strong regulatory oversight.
- Technical experience in diverse EHS areas including but not limited to: air, water, hazardous and medical waste, hazard analysis, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and chemical handling is highly desirable.
- CSP, CIH, REM, CHMM or related EHS certification preferred.
- Proficient in MS Office software programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred.
Requirements:
- Position must be located at the Branchburg, NJ site.
- Approximately 20% travel, as needed, required.
- Ability to wear personnel protective equipment and other equipment such as lab coat/clean room gown.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to execute tasks efficiently.
