This Position reports to:
SSE Manager
Reporting to the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager of the Iberville plant (Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu), you will play a key role in continuously improving HSE performance by fostering sustainable behavioral change and strengthening a strong prevention culture within the business unit. Product lines: Microlectric, SuperStrut & Joslyn.
In this role, you will be responsible for structuring, deploying, and evolving the ergonomics program by fully integrating it into operational processes and continuous improvement initiatives. You will conduct in-depth ergonomic assessments, identify optimization opportunities, and lead the implementation of practical solutions aimed at reducing risks, improving working conditions, and enhancing operational performance.
You will act as a subject matter expert for multidisciplinary teams (engineering, production, maintenance) to ensure ergonomic principles are integrated from the design phase through to the improvement of workstations, equipment, and methods.
You will also play a central role in incident analysis by conducting root cause analyses that incorporate human and organizational factors, and by ensuring the deployment of effective and sustainable corrective actions.
Through your leadership and influencing skills, you will support teams in proactively identifying risks and adopting best practices, contributing to a tangible reduction in risks and sustained improvement in HSE performance.
This position contributes to the Electrification, Installation Products division of ABB Canada and is based in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.
The work model is 100% on-site.
Your responsibilities
Drive continuous improvement of HSE performance by deploying group management systems, training programs, and improvement initiatives, with a focus on ergonomic optimization of workstations
Conduct and support in-depth ergonomic analyses (workstations, tasks, movements, physical demands) to identify risk factors and recommend technical and organizational solutions
Collaborate with engineering, production, and maintenance teams to design and improve workstations (layout, tooling, methods), integrating ergonomics and safety principles from the outset
Support managers and supervisors in understanding their legal and organizational HSE responsibilities, and in integrating best practices in ergonomics and prevention
Facilitate risk assessments (including ergonomic risks), ensure follow-up on action plans, and guarantee effective implementation of corrective measures
Ensure the availability and proper use of safety equipment and tools, while identifying training needs related to ergonomic and operational risks
Participate in HSE audits and ensure compliance with group management system requirements
Lead incident investigations and perform root cause analyses (RCA), incorporating human and ergonomic considerations into recommendations
Engage stakeholders to strengthen the prevention culture, promote HSE initiatives, and communicate performance results
Plan and lead improvement projects (Lean, process optimization, reduction of physical strain), ensuring performance indicators are tracked
Participate in daily administrative documentation of the department to support HSE KPI tracking
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical) or a related field
Specialization in Ergonomics (asset)
Relevant experience (3–5 years) in health and safety in a manufacturing or industrial environment, with a strong focus on ergonomic analysis and workstation optimization
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify technical concepts and engage teams
Strong proficiency with analysis tools and continuous improvement methodologies
Ergonomic analysis (ABB tools including RULA, REBA, etc.)
Lean manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S
Root cause analysis (RCA, 5 Whys, Ishikawa)
Proven ability to analyze complex problems and propose concrete, sustainable, and measurable solutions
Experience working with multidisciplinary teams (engineering, operations, HSE, HR) and in a unionized environment
Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
Proficiency with computer tools and analysis software (e.g., advanced Excel, ergonomic analysis tools, HSE software)
Bilingualism (French and English). English is required to communicate with clients outside Quebec
Knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety laws and standards
