The Opportunity
Innovate. Lead. Make an Impact in Northern Ontario.
In this senior geoscience leadership role, you’ll provide strategic direction and technical leadership to multidisciplinary environmental teams delivering some of the most complex and high‑profile environmental programs across Northern Ontario and beyond. You’ll work at the intersection of science, regulation, and community, helping shape projects that support responsible development in mining, energy, infrastructure, and resource‑based sectors critical to the North.
Drawing on your deep geoscience expertise and strong understanding of Northern Ontario’s environmental, geological, and regulatory context, you’ll guide environmental assessments, site remediation programs, risk assessments, and long‑term environmental strategies. As a trusted advisor to clients and project teams, you’ll influence decision‑making, strengthen client relationships, and help grow our environmental and geoscience practice across the region.
This role offers the opportunity to lead complex projects in remote and northern environments, mentor and develop technical talent, contribute to market strategy and business growth, and collaborate closely with Indigenous Nations, regulators, and stakeholders. Your leadership will help ensure projects are technically sound, culturally informed, and aligned with long‑term environmental stewardship in Northern Ontario.
Your Impact
- Provide strategic technical leadership across environmental site assessment, remediation, and risk assessment programs, ensuring high quality delivery and regulatory compliance.
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams to deliver complex, high‑impact environmental projects that influence community planning, land development, infrastructure, and sustainability outcomes.
- Mentor and develop talent across the Environmental business, strengthening succession planning and technical excellence.
- Act as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, strategic partners, and major clients on environmental risk, regulatory frameworks, and emerging contaminants.
- Champion innovation by advancing new methodologies, standards, and best practices within environmental engineering and geoscience.
- Increase WSP’s visibility through participation in industry associations, conferences, and technical committees.
- Drive business growth through seller‑doer leadership, pursuit strategy, proposal oversight, and opportunity pipeline forecasting.
- Strengthen cross‑sector collaboration to expand WSP’s environmental service offerings across geographies and business lines.
- Support risk management on major pursuits and programs, including contract review, fee structures, commercial strategy, and project delivery oversight.
The Skills That Set You Apart
- A Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Geo‑Environmental Science, Environmental Science, or Environmental Engineering, paired with experience earned through hands‑on leadership of significant environmental programs.
- Registration as a P.Geo. or P.Eng. in Ontario, and recognition as a Qualified Person (QP) under O.Reg. 153/04.
- 15–20+ years of progressive experience in environmental engineering or geoscience, including senior oversight of major multidisciplinary projects in Ontario and Atlantic Canada.
- Advanced expertise in environmental site assessment, contaminated sites, remediation, risk assessment, excess soils, and emerging contaminants.
- A proven reputation as a senior reviewer and technical authority on complex project files.
- A demonstrated track record as a seller‑doer, building long‑term client relationships and delivering persistent business growth.
- Highly collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to influence strategy across teams and markets.
