NOVA Engineering & Environmental is seeking an experienced Environmental Consultant in Jacksonville, Florida to support a wide range of environmental assessment, investigation, and compliance projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in field sampling, regulatory familiarity within Florida (including Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and water management district (WMD) requirements, and technical reporting. This role involves both fieldwork and office-based analysis, with opportunities to contribute to complex environmental projects including site assessments, groundwater monitoring, and construction oversight.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct soil, groundwater, and surface water sampling in accordance with Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other applicable regulatory guidelines
- Perform field activities including monitoring well installation oversight, gauging, purging, and sampling
- Execute and manage Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) in accordance with ASTM standards (e.g., E1527)
- Prepare and review groundwater monitoring reports, including data evaluation, potentiometric surface mapping, and trend analysis
- Support and document environmental compliance activities during construction projects (environmental construction oversight)
- Implement and adhere to PFAS sampling protocols, including use of proper materials, decontamination procedures, and QA/QC requirements
- Maintain detailed field logs, chain-of-custody documentation, and photographic records
- Coordinate with laboratories, review analytical data, and ensure data quality objectives are met
- Assist with preparation of technical reports, proposals, and regulatory submittals
- Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geology, or environmental science
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in environmental consulting or related field
- Demonstrated experience with groundwater and soil sampling SOPs in Florida
- Working knowledge of FDEP regulations (including Chapter 62-780, where applicable)
- Experience conducting Phase I ESAs and preparing associated reports
- Proficiency in preparing groundwater monitoring and technical reports
- Experience with environmental construction oversight activities
- Familiarity with PFAS sampling procedures and contamination prevention practices
- Strong technical writing and data interpretation skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Preferred Qualifications:
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (current or ability to obtain) with current refresher
- Experience with Microsoft Office software suite
- Experience with remediation systems and site rehabilitation projects
Physical & Work Requirements:
- Ability to perform fieldwork in varying weather conditions and terrain
- Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds (sampling equipment, coolers, etc.)
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed (primarily within Florida, occasional out-of-state travel possible)
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
Work Environment:
This position involves a combination of office-based work and outdoor field activities. Fieldwork may include exposure to construction sites, industrial facilities, and environmental media (soil, groundwater, etc.), requiring adherence to health and safety protocols.
