DescriptionPosition Summary
The BESS Testing & Validation Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and managing testing and validation activities for Battery Energy Storage Systems across cell, module, pack, rack, and container levels. The role ensures product reliability, safety, performance, and compliance with global standards before commercialization and large-scale deployment.
Key Responsibilities 1. Testing Strategy & Planning
- Develop validation plans (DVP/DVPR) for BESS systems
- Define test protocols for electrical, mechanical, thermal, and safety validation
- Align testing strategy with product requirements, standards, and customer specifications
2. Product Testing & Validation
- Perform and supervise testing at multiple levels:
- Cell / Module / Pack / Rack / Container
- Conduct key tests:
- Electrical performance (capacity, efficiency, cycle life)
- Thermal performance and heat dissipation
- Environmental testing (temperature, humidity, vibration, dust)
- Safety testing (short circuit, overcharge, thermal runaway)
- Validate BMS, EMS, and PCS integration
3. Standards & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with international standards such as:
- Support certification processes and audits
- Work with third-party labs for regulatory approvals
4. Failure Analysis & Reliability
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on failures
- Lead reliability testing (ALT, HALT, HASS)
- Recommend design and process improvements
5. Lab Setup & Equipment Management
- Set up and manage testing labs and infrastructure
- Identify and procure testing equipment (cyclers, thermal chambers, HV testers, etc.)
- Ensure calibration and maintenance of instruments
6. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with:
- R&D and Design teams
- Manufacturing and Process Engineering
- Quality and Supplier teams
- Support prototype, pilot, and production validation phases
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare validation reports and test summaries
- Maintain traceability and documentation for audits
- Present findings to internal and external stakeholders
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of Li-ion batteries and BESS architecture
- Knowledge of testing standards and certification requirements
- Hands-on experience with testing equipment and data analysis tools
- Expertise in failure analysis and reliability engineering
- Familiarity with BMS, EMS, PCS systems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s / Master’s in Electrical / Electronics / Mechanical Engineering
- 4–12+ years of experience in battery/BESS testing & validation
