Description- Lead the preparation of proposals and the delivery of technical advisory services as an Independent Engineer or Owner’s Engineer for utility‑scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in Japan.
- Contribute to technical reviews and due diligence activities for BESS projects, working collaboratively with experienced colleagues as part of a wider project team.
- Review key project documentation, including technical descriptions, calculations, drawings, and specifications, and support the identification and assessment of key technical issues, risks, and considerations.
- Participate in technical and commercial discussions with project stakeholders, including developers and internal subject‑matter experts, and prepare clear, well‑structured technical notes and meeting minutes.
- Support site‑related activities, such as due‑diligence site visits and witnessing or monitoring of Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), installation, and commissioning activities.
- Work closely with DNV’s Japan and APAC energy storage teams, as well as broader renewable energy experts, actively sharing knowledge and learning from multidisciplinary experts.

Qualifications- 3–15 years of professional experience in energy storage, solar PV, or other energy projects.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Technical understanding of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) architecture, key components, control systems, safety standards, and grid code compliance.
- Demonstrated experience in project execution, technical due diligence, design reviews, construction supervision, and/or commissioning activities in energy storage or solar PV projects.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to critically evaluate engineering designs, technical documentation, and project risks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven customer‑facing experience.
- Ability to manage and lead multiple projects in parallel while meeting quality and schedule requirements.
- Design review or hands‑on design experience gained through EPC contractors, Independent Engineer (IE), Owner’s Engineer (OE), or developer organizations is an advantage.
- Familiarity with Japanese energy regulations, permitting processes, and utility interconnection requirements is an advantage.
- Proficiency in technical writing, reporting, and preparation of professional deliverables (e.g. technical reports, review notes, and client presentations).
- Native or fluent Japanese
- Fluent or business‑level proficiency in spoken and written English.
