As part of our long‑term growth strategy, we are seeking an ambitious Senior / Lead Geoscientist to join our Seoul‑based office and play a key role in delivering high‑quality ground models for offshore wind projects: primarily in Korea but also globally.
The Team
You will join the Ground Modelling (GM) Department within WT’s Site Characterisation Business Unit. The team comprises geophysicists and survey managers at varying career stages who share a strong commitment to technical excellence, collaboration, and delivering value to clients.The GM team supports projects from site feasibility through detailed design and installation, with all work focused on enabling successful offshore wind farm delivery.
Role & Responsibilities
As a Senior Geoscientist, you will have technical, commercial, and people leadership responsibilities, including:
- Development of integrated ground models for offshore wind projectsto support design from feasibility through detailed foundation design, delivering on time, on budget, and to agreed quality standards
- Reviewing third‑party ground models and advising on suitability for different design stages
- Reviewing contractor deliverables to ensure scope compliance and suitability for further project activities
- Undertaking ground‑risk assessments for foundations and cable installation
- Contributing to geophysical survey planning, strategy, and definition of deliverables
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships
- Working primarily on Korean projects, with contributions to wider APAC and global projects as
Lead Geoscientist candidates will in addition be responsible for:
- Leading and mentoring mid- and junior level staff in ground model development and delivery within the wider GM department
- Leading scoping and tendering activities for complex ground modelling packages
- Supporting regional marketing and business development activities
- Active contribution to quality management and quality control within the wider GM department
Required Experience & Qualifications
Senior candidates must be able to demonstrate the following:
- A Masters degree in Geology or a closely related discipline (or equivalent significant professional experience)
- Strong understanding of shallow marine geology and geological processes relevant to offshore wind development
- Experience of working on large site characterisation projects within the offshore wind sector or closely related marine infrastructure fields
- Experience in the review and quality assurance of hydrographic and seismic survey deliverables
- Demonstrated expertise in ground modelling and interpretation using industry‑standard tools (e.g. DUG Insight, Kingdom, Petrel or equivalent)
- Competence in ArcGIS Pro and/or QGIS
- Strong technical writing capability, producing clear and defensible reports and data interpretations
- Commercial awareness, with the ability to deliver technically complex work packages on time and on budget
- Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to non‑specialists
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, international consulting environment
Lead candidates must in addition be able to clearly demonstrate the following:
- Strong understanding of how offshore wind project development stages influence survey scope, ground modelling approaches, and deliverables requirements
- Strong track record inscoping and both technical and commercial management of thedelivery of large, technically complex site characterisation projects within the offshore wind sector
- Experience taking formal or informal leadership roles, including mentoring and guiding junior staff
Beneficial / Desirable Experience
The following are advantageous but not essential:
- Native‑level or fluent Korean (spoken and written)
- Regional geological knowledge of the Yellow Sea and/or Sea of Japan
- Experience with acquisition of hydrographic data and single‑channel seismic or sub‑bottom profiler (SBP) data for shallow infrastructure derisking
- Experience of 2D/3D ultra-high resolution (UHR) multi-channel seismic acquisition and/or processing
- Knowledge of advanced or quantitative ground modelling approaches, such asgeocellular modelling, machine‑learning methods for synthetic CPT development, and seismic inversion techniques
- Experience managing marine geophysical or geotechnical surveys
- Marine geotechnical survey data acquisition and/or interpretation experience
Location & Working Arrangements
This role is based in Seoul, South Korea, on local terms and conditions. Domestic travel within Korea will be required to support client engagement and technical collaboration, including undertaking technical work on client premises.
